    Menu problems with Pinnacle 14

My first project with Pinnable 14 after having upgraded (been using Pinnacle through a number of releases now).

What follows may sound a little complicated so I have a picture to help. From left to right...

    • A lead in snippet of film before Menu 1.
    • Menu one has a number of links, C5 of which links to the next peice of film which runs into Menu 2.
    • Menu two has a link (C2) which links to the next peice of film which runs into Menu 3, ... etc, etc - you get the idea.

This works fine when run in DVD Preview - works exactly as I want it - when I put DVD Preview into full screen it stops playing as soon as it hits a menu. When rendered, it will play the lead in and Menu 1, and when C5 is clicked it will play the next portion of film but instead of then showing Menu 2 it will go back to Menu 1.

I have tried this two other ways - first by adding "returns" to the menu that should come next, as the next picture shows. This had exactly the same behaviour. Worked as I wanted it to in the DVD Preview, but when rendered behaved exactly as above.

Then I tried putting all the menus together and the pieces of film after them - again no difference in the final rendered DVD.

Multiple menus like this worked in previous versions of Pinnacle, so I am at a loss to know how to get them to work with Pinnacle 14.

Does anyone have any ideas for me? Any other arrangements that I can try that might work where the above fails?

    Cheers
    Mog

IMO, if you are able to view it the way you want in DVD Preview, then it might be render problem that you are going through. Clear your aux files, enable background rendering and allow the pre-render (green to orange) to complete. Then attempt to preview again. Or even render to a DVD image (Video_TS) and preview that way.

I have rendered to a DVD image (VIDEO_TS) - that's how I know it doesn't work when rendered (I won't waste a physical DVD until that works). I will try the other suggestions you made.

Re: Menu problems with Pinnacle 14

Ok - I have tried deleting aux files and re-rendering after all the background rendering was complete - no different. I have tried making a brand new project with very simple version of what is needed to recreate this - no different.

So then I went back to Pinnacle 11 which is what I had before installing Pinnacle 14 (and helpfully they are both usable - nice feature by the way!) and did the same very simple test there and it worked perfectly.

My original desrcription probably sounded a bit complex, but this can be recreated with the following simple setup.

    • menu 1 - one link to begining of footage 1
    • footage 1 - no return, should just run into menu 2
    • menu 2 (make it different to menu 1 so you can tell what's happening) - one link to  beginning of footage 2
    • footage 2 - different clip to footage 1 so you can see what is happening.

In Pinnacle 14 (when rendered but not when previewed) when you click on the link on menu 1, it will then play footage 1 followed by going bck to menu1 instead of menu 2.

     Cheers

Great, let me know how it goes.

I suspect we crossed in the post there (so to speak). My last post was me letting you know how it goes. All permutations failed. Have provided simplest recreate and have confirmed works just fine in Pinnacle 11.

Menu creation does not work with Pinnacle 14

I am also experiencing menu problems with v14.  A simple project with a handful of video clips allows production of dual menus/sub menus.  But a 1hr40m video does not.  This project includes 25 stills embedded with effects using picture-in-picture.  I also have three short music clips on the soundtrack.  And there are a few titles.  It's in AVCHD format.  Not a particularly complex project, but it does use some of Pinnacle's advanced features.

I can establish M1 and link the start clip to that, plus M2.  But when I try to set C1 and link it to M2, the C1 tab bounces ahead 15 clips and attaches itself to the first still photo, which is positioned above its respective video clip.  I've tried to make this work over-and-over again but the menu system simply won't respond to my commands in this project.

I called this into technical support yesterday, and after wasting 45 minutes with them, the rep said he didn't know why I was experiencing this problem and urged me to "play with it some more."  I asked to speak with a supervisor, and he advised me to do the same thing.

Me thinks v14 has bugs.  I've also had problems burning DVD RDL discs.  It simply does not work.  Regular DVD-Rs work fine.

HI Marc P. - a while back there was a post on here saying you would add this to your list. It appears to have gone now. Is this still on your list? Happy to wait until you have time to look into it, but concerned that the deletion of the post may mean you are not going to look into it anymore?

I've escalated this case to our QA team for further testing. I'm not sure what happened to that post though. Anyhow, I'll post updates here as soon as I hear back from QA.
