    Help Please

I'm trying to make a youtube video the way many seem to do. Using a dazzle.

I'm using a Dazzle DVC 100 (the black one) Conneted to my computer with a 12 foot cable (it one of the one's with three different cables One Red, one white, one yellow, Av cables there called?) along with three Y-splitters (1 male end, two female ends). when I connect the whole thing up, My pinnacle tells me that Theirs an "input error" and that I should check my cables. Everything is plugged in right, What am I doing wrong? I can give the computer model and TV model if needed

You don't say what you're trying to capture from. Is it a VCR or camcorder? Your source should be turned on and hooked up before you open Studio.

And why do you have Y splitters?

I don't have a Dazzle DVC100 but I looked at a picture of one and it looks like it just has simple inputs for video, and two audio plugs.

    Re: Help Please

I'm using Y-splitters because the set up videos on youtube did.

    I'm recording by VCR

    Re: Help Please

Be absolutely, positively sure that you have the cables hooked up right. Check the VCR to make sure the composite cables are plugged into the outputs, not the inputs.

I can't see a practical reason for the Y splitters. Take them off unless you can see a  need for them.

As I said in the previous post, everything should be turned on before you open Studio.

Even though the cables are color-coded with the yellow designated for video, for all practical purposes, it doesn't matter what color you plug into each jack as long as you're consistent. IOW, if you use red for the video out on the VCR, plug the other red end into the video input on the Dazzle unit.  I would suggest you also plug the USB cable directly into a USB port on the computer, not into a USB extension box.

It's possible you have a bad cable. Switching them around can help determine that.

Maybe someone with a Dazzle unit will chime in on this too. Smile

P.S. I just looked on youtube for setup videos. Almost all that I saw that used the Y-splitters were for xbox or PS3's. You're hooking up to a VCR so you don't need them.

.....................And, disconnect all USB Devices, including External HDD & Connect Dazzle to PC's Back panel USB Connectors (If you have a DesktopPC). USB Capture Devices require a lot of power to function. If you have other USB Devices connected, that power is reduced for Dazzle. Likewise if you're connected to a Front Panel USB Hub, rather than directly to the MOBO.

BTW - S10 Content Disk has connection diagrams for some Capture Devices. I'll explore my S10 Disk fo rDazzle 100 & if yes, will include a ScreenShot, in my Post here.

ADDED - ScreenShot for Dazzle 120 (None fir 100). Click on Image, to Open in a new Windiw & then expand, to view.

    Re: Help Please

    colour,

thanks for adding that info. hope it helps the OP.

in looking at his reply I just noticed he said he is recording "by" VCR, not "from" a VCR.

that would change things quite a bit, wouldn't it? Big Smile

    Re: Help Please

I wish I could add more to the thread. I don't have a Dazzle and I don't have a wii so anything I say would be a wild guess although my previous advice would still apply except maybe the part about removing the Y's.

I would suggest that you start a new thread and title it something like: "Having trouble trying to record wii to my computer (or VCR or whatever device you're recording to)

That way it might catch the eye of someone who may have had a similar problem. Just saying Help Please doesn't say much about what problems you have.
