I just confirmed a successful workflow for making a high def dvd (standard DVD media) that plays in my LG 390 bluray dvd player.
I fused an HDV timeline to a file and imported the file into a Studio Plus 12 project (I don't know much about Studio at this point, just installed it).
The Studio timeline format was set to 1080i. I then chose to make a DVD in the AVCHD format and burned a standard DVD. It looks pretty good, much clearer than a standard DVD. As expected, you are limited to the length, around 23 minutes or so.
The rendering was darn slow. Probably 15% to 20% of real time.
I also tried to make an HD DVD type of disk. It rendered really fast, as if it were just copying material. Too bad it won't play in my bluray player -- just says "empty folder". What a shame the HD DVD format is not supported in bluray players.
I also tried making a BluRay dvd. The process worked, it made a file, but it did not try to burn the DVD. I assume it needed to recognize a real BluRay DVD burner. Rendering was similarly slow to AVCHD process. I wonder if it is possible to make a bluray disk on standard DVD media somehow.
