Transfer of Pixie Folder to S14

Transfer of Pixie Folder to S14

In the past and with other upgrades or with new installations, the transfer of your prior version of the PIXIE folder has been recommended (other users). It's my understanding that the pixie folder contains all of your purchased activation keys. When I purchase the new S14UC (full version) I intend to search the new installation for this folder and if found make a back-up and then copy my S12 PIXIE folder to replace the S14 folder. This procedure has saved me time and headaches in the past. Has anyone else tried this and have they completed this proceedure using S14?

    I haven't tried this.

Maybe others can give more information. Let's wait.

Yes this works, at least for me on a clean install of S14 on a PC that had no prior versions on it.  I copied the pixie folder over pre-install, used the CTW to install the S11 bonus DVD, and when I started up S14 it had kept my old passport number and unlocked the content from the S11 Bonus DVD I owned.

All my keys were listed from my old version and were the same.

Betreft: Re: Transfer of Pixie Folder to S14

It's not only worth to copy the Pixie folder, but also the Plugins\RTFx and VST folders from previous versions.
All video and audio effects will show up in the new version.
BTW. Do not replace but copy into the existing folder.
In that case for Studio 14 no need to use the transfer wizzard.

    Keek,

Did you move over S12U plug-in content from the plug-in disc?  If so did you move it over via just installing the patch from the vendor's website (Boris Graffiti and ProDadVitascene).  Or did you install off the plug-in disc directly either with/without using the transfer wizard?

Betreft: Re: Betreft: Re: Transfer of Pixie Folder to S14

I did nothing else than copy the content of the S12 RTFx folder into the S14 RTFx folder.
    That's all.
All the plugins (12 Ultimate, third party like JP,HL and WL, VirtualDub, etc) are now also in Studio 14.

Great news!! I have also coppied the RTFx;s folders in the past with success. I will continue this proceedure with the new installation of S14.

Re: Betreft: Re: Betreft: Re: Transfer of Pixie Folder to S14

    Thanks for the tips.

Unfortunately I am on a clean PC and install of S14U so I'll have to try something else. I don' t want to install 12 just to get 3 plugins, etc.

I could try to resurrect 12 on my old box but probably not worth it.

     Thanks,

Might be handy if these effects are crucial to you.

Re: Betreft: Re: Betreft: Re: Transfer of Pixie Folder to S14

Well I thought I wanted them....but now I wonder how bad! Smile

I did a quick install Studio 12U on an old box to try to get the Boris and Adorage plug-ins moved over via the "copy the RTFX folder files" method because I do want them on my new PC with Studio 14.  However I believe it may not get me what I want.

I looked at the Studio 12 install and I do see a few Boris and Adorage files in the RTFX folder which I can easily move to my Studio 14U install....however for the people that this worked for before, they probably also installed the 12U Plug-in Disc on the same PC on a Studio 12 install. Which is perhaps why just copying over the plug-ins to Studio 14 worked for them?....the program files for Boris and Adorage were already there?

In my case, the program files for Boris and Adorage were never installed on the PC S14U.  For example the install of the S12 plug-in disc created a program directory for "Boris FX, Inc" and several related folders on the S12 PC.  Ditto with Adorage.  Of course if I just copy over the plug-in files those folders will not be there on my S14 install. And you just can't copy over program files.

Ditto for going to the web and installing the "updates". The update must assume you already installed the old version (on 12 in another folder in this case). Can someone that has used either of the above methods on a clean install of S14 please confirm?

I really wish this wasn't so hard. Perhaps I really don't need these plug-ins after all!
