Just did a fresh install of Windows XP SP3 on a PC that is 3.2Ghz with 4GB of RAM, NVIDIA 6600 GT 128MB graphics card.
I have the DVC 170 that came with the Pinnacle Dazzle Creator Platinum.
These are the steps I took:
- Installed Instant DVD Recorder (Blue Disk)
- Installed Studio 10 Quickstart (White Disk) Version 10.5
- Did not install bonus discs
- Restarted
- Plugged DVC170 into computer, device successfull installs
I then go and try to capture video (camcorder hooked up via composite to the dazzle), no matter what format I use MPEG1/2 / MPEG 4 / DivX, I run into the same problem where after I stop capturing, no video is written to the hard drive and there is no trace of my captured video to edit.
Did some reading and followed some suggestions to upgrade my Studio and Hardware drivers to the latest version; here are the steps
- Downloaded Studio 10.7 patch for XP, installed
- Reboot
- Uninstalled DVC170 driver, and downloaded most recent driver from the Pinnacle site
- Installed driver which updated to 2.5.8.2 11/2006 version
- Reboot
- Plugged in Dazzle, device successfully installs and I confirm that the newer driver is now present
- Boot up Studio 10.7, when I go to capture I get the Blue Screen of Death
I've pretty much tried several different variations of the above, all after a clean fresh install of Windows XP SP3 each time. Oddly enough, when I try to install Studio to my old clunker PC that's on Windows XP SP2, the capture works like a charm with no updates to Studio 10.5 or the drivers at all. Unfortunately that PC doesnt have enough processing power to capture the video without hiccups.
Is this an SP3 issue? Should I try to install XP SP2? I havent read many instances of BSOD on XP so I'm wondering why I'm having so many issues.
