Using layers in title or video track

    Hi guys,

I'm trying to get a handle on layering photos and text...and not having much luck. Using Studio Ultimate 12.

The frame is pretty simple: 1) background photo of a dog. 2) On top of that I need to put a company logo in the lower right-hand corner. 3) Finish it off with a few text credits in the lower left-hand corner.

    1) and 3) aren't a problem. The dog photo is on the video timeline and the credits text is on a transparent Title page. But I can't get the logo to show up. I put it on the  Overlay track and tried every option (Bring forward, Send back, etc) with no luck.

I'm sure it's something simple, but I'm missing it.

    Thanks,

    Bob

What is the file format of the company logo?

    Hi Don,

     It's a .jpeg.

Sorry for leaving out that piece of information.

    Thanks,

    Bob

The reason Don asked that question is because jpeg files do not preserve any transparency.  There are two ways to handle this. Either convert the jpeg to a tiff or gif file in a photo editor and use the option to preserve transparency when the file is saved, or fill the transparent areas of the image with a chroma green color and enable the chroma key option on the overlay track.

If transparency isn't the issue and you have a rectangular image that you want superimposed in a corner of the screen, then use the scaling option in Picture in Picture to reduce the size of the image on the screen.

If you do not see the company logo (placed on the overlay track), maybe you have the video track turned off (the little eyeball at the right end of the overlay track)?
