On hold with Studio 10 - Is upgrading to 14 a safe idea?

Up until installing version 10 on Windows 7 RC 64 bit I have never and a stable load of version 10 in XP even with the latest patches. I reverted back to using Studio 9.43 which has always been rock solid for me up to the point of burning my DVD projects. There I would use Nero or CloneDVD. I'm really surprised that 10 would even run with Windows 7. In fact it realy runs well and would probably keep running it except that I have to do my video captures on the boot side with my Windows XP to version 9 so that I can use the DC10 capture card. From there I would switch back to Windows 7 to start projects using the AVI files I had created in version 9. Kind of a wishy washy way of doing things to get what little extra features I could get with version 10 never the less WOW version 10 would finally run for me. I had felt cheated ever since I purchased it. Never got anywhere with tech support to resolve. It is from this that I refused to upgrade to version 11 or 12. I really need to retire version 9 with the old DC10 card. I looked at Powerdirector 8 trial. It was OK but still stuck without the analog capture capability in Window 7, Sony Vegas the same thing. What I'm getting at is it risky to move on to Studio 14 Movie Box with the USB box this early in the release? Is the new Movie Box 14 packaged with the Plus or can it be obtained with the Ultimate? I have had success in both the trial versions of Powerdirector and Sony Vegas of importing my AVI files from Studio 9 but this process in a pain. I would appreciate a vote of confidence with Pinnacle's latest product but am a little apprehensive. Thanks for any input. Also note I am using a Vertex 120 SSD for my Windows 7 OS and apps. It's simply solid and screams through the work process. Note 2 - can the 710USB box be found anywhere seperately to purchase to use with an upgrade version of Studio 14 Ultimate?

Until someone with S14 cares to chip in a search for Studio14 (results here) should give you a few things to ponder

Your Canon ES2000 is a Hi8 device that requires analogue capture.  Use whatever has worked for you to date.  What is wrong with sticking with XP and S9.43?  Might you also be thinking about retiring the ES2000 along with the capture card?

Studio 14 presents some problems for people who do DV capture.  No known comments from any Hi8 diehards loyalists.   Any willing guinea pigs?  Is your Last Will and Testament in order?  Does your life insurance policy contain any exclusions for "videographic derangement" or "NLE toxins."

If you can find Studio 12 on-the-cheap somewhere, and install its 12.1 patch, it might add some new tools, entail little learning curve, not impoverish you, and entail less risk.

Re: On hold with Studio 10 - Is upgrading to 14 a safe idea?

I'd like to move on to a new digital SD cam but at the moment I still do great work with Hi-8. I actually loaded Studio 14 trial last night on my Win 7 SSD side of my PC. I imported and built a project from an existing AVI folder, added some enhancements, menu and such with no hiccups until I was navigating around in the Make Dvd folder to which I blue screened. After the recovery though I finished the project and made a succesful burn. Kind of reminds me Studio 9 in that so far 14 just works. If the trial seems stable enough I might really give it a thought to upgrade and not go to Powerdirector 8. I still would like to get an upgrade analog capture board seperate from the bundled Movie Box but it looks like I'll have to consider it. Can anyone tell me which version of 14 would ship with the better version of Movie Box? thanks

Did you test the S14 motion titler?   Do you always export your work back to tape?  If you burn DVDs, and have any longer works, try a DVD+R DL and help confirm whether S14 can burn to DLs or not.  Some claim no.
