Getting higher quality video transfer - best.txt

    Hi

I know that this has appeared a few times in this forum however many of the links are not working and I know other people apart from myself would like to know the answer.

     1. How can you improve the best quality video.  I understand that you can create a text file called best.txt and place it into the video folder (on say your removable hard disk drive).  However what needs to go into that best.txt file.

    2. Can you improve the quality any further?

    3. Can you change the settings such as Mbps or file size?

    4. Any other tips?

Thank you from me and from all the others that would like to know that.

     By the way, great product.

     Chris

Re: Getting higher quality video transfer - best.txt

    Hi

As no one has added to this, I thought I would add a point in the FAQs.

There is a hidden feature to increase the quality of Best.  The FAQs say:

Note: To enable the hidden feature for "BEST" quality (data rate 2,5Mb/s) create a file named "best.txt" in the root or in the "video" folder before connecting Pinnacle Video Transfer. This feature is only recommended for USB storage devices with a good USB-performance

I think they mean a blank file called best.txt although this has not been stated.

However if any one would like to add this this, espessily any ways that this can be improved in both Mb/s rate or file size, please can you add to this forum.

Re: Getting higher quality video transfer - best.txt

The only official text-based mod is the "best.txt" file placed at the root of the recording device.  All that is required is for the file to exist; it doesn't have any content.

The biggest improvement in quality is to use the s-video input instead ot the standard composite.  This makes a tremendous difference.

Yes, use the bext.txt file and select best via the button (3 leds lit)  it produces 720x480 at the highest bitrate..

There hasn't been a firmware update in a long time, people were hoping there would be one that allowed you to specify in the best.txt file other parameters, but I don't think that will happen. I suspect the PVT is at the end of its life and no firmware updates will come.   But hopefully I'm wrong

I think this thread should be stickied - I didn't know about best.txt until I saw it.
