Hi all

 

The time has come for me to upgrade my Liquid 5.5 (Yes I know). I need to be able to do full HD (1920X1080) at 25 frames per second and half HD (1280X720) on the odd occasion. I need full broadcast quality (or film quality if there is such a thing). I mainly do realistic animations with fancy text, progressions, transitions etc. and sometimes I have about 10 layers of video and effects. IO is not an issue so I don't need a breakout box. (I have a firewire port if needed). Also I need a long life span out of my product and good functionality. Furthermore it should run perfect on my current Vista64 bit system and perfect on my Windows7 64bit system when that comes out. I also need to be able to make DVD discs now and then but not often. My main delivery format would be quicktime H264.

 

I can't sit around and get old waiting for NextGen and need to make a choice fairly soon. I'm leaning towards Media Composer even though it costs extra.

 

Any comments, experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Liquid is not the right product for youi at this time. As you are already learning Media Composer that might be your best choice and also look at Edius. Edius would be the simplest learning curve as it is very similar to Liquid. Media Composer is a better product if you are looking to output to film as it is expressly designed for that but it does cost a bit more. If I had to make the choice given your needs, I would go the Media Composer route.

Hi I think you misread my post. I'm not learning, but leaning towards Media Composer. But thank you, I think you answered my question anycase. Do you perhaps know if there is an upgrade path from my old Liquid to Media Composer or would I have to purchase a complete new package?

See if you can contact your local Avid rep and if he/she can extend the original Liquid to MC offer to you (roughly half price). That offer has expired but again, Avid might be accommodating. You can also try contacting Marianna at Avid and see if she can help get you the discount.

OK so I got the trial for MC installed and I'm just about to slit my wrists.....

There are some really good MC tutorials over on the Avid site...maybe Lew or someone can give you a link...
