    S12 - "RTFX Volume 1 | Sharpen" filter introduces severe flicker/judder

Problem existed in my original S12.0.1 Ultimate (full version) installation; I reported it during the last Beta (thread here) and the problem is still present in the 12.1.3 release patch Sad

Application of the ""Sharpen" filter to standard-def PAL DV video introduces a severe flicker/judder when there is horizontal movement in the video (for example a pan shot of a fairly fast-moving subject; background objects it passes will flicker/judder instead of appearing blurred. The degradationj is visible whatever the output format (file or disc).

The same video with the "sharpen" filter applied in Studio 11 on the same computer does not get degraded.

To me this looks like a field dominance issue - as if the "sharpen" filter has swapped over the fields so what went into the filter was (e.g.) lower field first but came out upper field first. So motion progresses in a juddery "2 steps forward, 1 step back" appearance as an object crosses the screen.

I have to work around by using the "Sharpen" filter in JPsEffects instead; but that filter is a lot slower in processing than the one in S12.

    Regards,
    Richard

    Hello Richard

Same name and same problem here too!

It looks as if field 2a is coupled on field 1b as a integrated frame, then 3a to 2b, 4a to 3b and on and on.....

Or is it an unwanted progressive output of the sharpened shots when exported? That could be also the case.

I used the sharpening effect in a low grade (+10% to +25%) to sharpen up my old S-VHS tapes on pinnacle 11, with very good results, but the output to disk or file for this effect on pinnacle 12 is a real disaster.

To work around this problem I have re-installed my pinnacle 11 next to the 12 version.

The 11 is only used on produced files from 12 to sharpen them with a preserved fluid motion, or to presharpen other avi and mpeg-2 files before handling in pinn 12.

I myself am wondering if the problem with version 12 can be a conflict with picasa3 and it's new videoplayback, but removing picasa3 photoviewer gives no positive result on the behaviour of the pinncle 12 sharpening tool.

Strangely the stroboscopic movement does not appear when the rendered timeline is played back.

For now my only advise is: Two pinnacle versions next to eachother for different tasks, wich is unnesecery complicated. I hope pinnacle will have a solution!
