    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    forgive me if this has been addressed, does the Xena HW work with w7?  I am really torn between just leaving the ChromeHD system 'as is' and getting a W7 system for Audio and also NextGen.

    its that whole 'if it aint broke...'

    PS had a great visit with old FASTie and current AVID sales rep Kyle Cowan yesterday, he is here for the Alaska Broadcasting Conv, the second biggest show after NAB  :-)   (or not)

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    There's a current thread on this in the Chrome subforum. The problem is with the dongle driver. I posted a link to an updated driver, but I don't think anyone's tried that particular driver yet.

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    --EDIT: I thought the post I was replying to showed up...this is in reference to the Color Corrector not saving the settings when you exit the effect.--

    I am having the same problem with the Classic Color Corrector.  For some reason, when you exit it, the effect is still applied to the clip but doesn't display the change in the video preview, on the computer monitor or on the Pro BOB.  However, if you force render the effect, you adjusted settings will show up.  It's the real-time version of this that is not working (I know that it's a Classic filter and it shouldn't work in real-time, but for some reason--never seen any documentation on this--it has always worked in real-time on XP.)  I've been using Windows 7Pro for about a week now (did some testing a few months ago with the RC).

     My specs are:

    Intel 975XBX2 Motherboard;
    Intel Core2 Duo 6600;
    2GB RAM;
    ATI VisionTek X1950Pro PCI-E 256MB;
    Promise IDE Controller for Video Drives;
    Sony DRU-720A;
    Windows 7 Pro 32-bit with all current updates applied;
    Avid Liquid 7.2 Pro (using BOB)

    I am currently running the Microsoft provided driver for the ATI 1950, since ATI is not providing drivers for 7.  I suppose this could be a video card issue.  I have also tried installing the legacy Vista 32-bit ATI driver (Catalyst 9.8), but no luck there.  And most recently, I installed 7.2.1, thinking it might work better with the DX10 version (since Win7 seems to be running a more advanced form of Direct 3D--tests that run for performance title everything like it's legacy).

    Guess if this filter is not going to work it's either back to XP or a dual-boot system :(

     Thanks in advance for any help!  -Jonathan

    To be able to answer this and help you, you have to answer to a question first.

    After your first post of these three identical ones, Lew answered you and pointed you to the install thread.

    Have you read that thread and followed it, sentence by sentence

    Yes I did.

    I used the the install thread to run Liquid on my system.

    I can capture, edit and burn  but still have Log message "Power User Rights Required! UMI  anytime a load liquid

    Do you think we going to have Nextgen soon?

    Thanks

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    DStone:
    I'd like to add a subthread to this thread. As we all know, Liquid's various hardware boxes (The Pro BOB, MBD, 700/710-USB, etc.) do not work on Vista or W7. However, with W7's virtual XP, I'm wondering if this is still true. Can someone test this out? Conceptually this should work as you can install XP only drivers on the virtual machine.

    Hi Dave

    I have tried Win7 64b Liquid installation in W7's virtual XP mode - Pro BOB driver seemed to load OK with installation [under Hardware > Devices ... reported as working] however ... Liquid would not run in Virtual WinXP mode as display driver provided by Win7 for Virtual XP Mode is only 16bit and Liquid requires minimum of 24 bit.  Seems impossible to load new display driver in Virtual WinXP mode - no doubt due to conflict with Win7's own main display driver.

    I then tried leaving Liquid Virtual WinXP mode installation in place and also installing Liquid directly into Win7 using settings suggested in "sticky thread" forum post. Works wonderfully well as known already - but still cannot access the Pro BOB even though winXP mode driver still in place.  The MS blurb claims that old USB devices installed under WinXP mode can be used "seemlessly" by Win7 itself.  Does not seem to be the case with the Pro BOB.  Maybe I missed a "trick" somewhere - but no luck in my trials.  Can you point to Pro BOB drivers only install file - that may be worth a try under Virtual XP mode?

    Liquid 7.2 definitely runs clean and fast in Win7 64b - with full functionality except possible problems with burning DVD's reported elsewhere on this forum.  No big deal as Authoring Works useful for burning to Blue ray - and latest version supports Win7.

    Cheers

    Very good Jon, nice to see that all works well and that there are users that read all the sentences in that install thread Smile

    You seem to have found the workflow that is useful for W7 64 bits and Vista 64 bits , I know of no better workflow, the apps and the workflow you are mentioning are the ones I am using for myself.

    About the Pro bob, I never got it to work with any 64 bits system, I bought a Canopus ADVC 300 unit instead, works very well, no HD previewing however.

    Well, you can lock at it this way, as you haven´t had any costs for updating your editing apps during these years, you have of course saved some money so that you might afford the Canopus unit, the unit works well even together with other apps of course

    It worked well with the 64 bits version of the RC so it shouldn´t be any probs with the final release I think.

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    You´re welcome, might take me some time before starting to use W7, you know, and many others, that I have been a Vista man ever since the number versions, my systems are working just super with all the correct configurations and installs, I see W7 more as a Vista SP3 actually, I have done some comparement tests of course, W7 renders a little bit faster but I know what I have in my Vista systems and they just never fails.

    As I also am helping other software developers from time to time, it feels very good to have a system safe as ... and when something breaks, be able to tell that there is something wrong with the app or filter, and that my system never fails

    Yes, I already have a bootdisc for it, think I will wait for a coming SP1 before doing it for real and of course use my Vista discs as main sys for a while even after having started running W7.

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    I've had LE 7.2 working on my GatewayFX Laptop for some time now.  Only bug I've encountered is when trying to write DVD the system totally crashes.... (and I may find a soloution as below)    however

    I Installed Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit on my dual quad xeon Intel workstation.... NICE.  I used PCMover's assist program to retain my apps, etc from my XP OX.  Everything transferred well and I was back up and operating in jig time.  quite a feat considering I've at least 10 years of programs and so on that have been moves.  A couple of ;the real old utilites don't function but most of my regularly accessed programs are just fine.

    Liquid transferred and made the trip well aslo.  All functioned fine.  I had some reluctance because of the inability to write DVD from within LE but gave it a go anyway.  It did not crash the OS on the workstation but did immediately crashed LE totally.

    Hoping God was smiling, I used the Troubleshooting option from the LE icon menu and let it's wizard do the heavy lifting.  I bumbled through the screens and let it set the XP compatible mode and whatever.  Once finished, I reopened LE, this time using the Open as administrator option from the icon dropdown.  LE opened.... and Eureka... DVD writing is now functioning correctly.

    I am a happy camper!

    If I can get the BOB up and working we'll all be happy campers.

    Later,

    Andy

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    Did the same routine on my GatewayFX laptop with the same results.  The laptop now writes to DVD perfectly....

    Steps..

    1, Run the troubleshooter from the dropdown list on the Liquid icon.

    Eliminated step two... not necessary to run in XP Mode.

    3.  Use Run as Administrator frome the LE Icon when starting Liquid....

    Problems solved.  Both the Laptop and Desktop are functioning up to par on Windows 7 Premiuim 64 bit.

     Next step is rexolving the BOB.

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    Another quick note.  Adding the /L to the Liquid startup command seems to result in upscale use of the CPU and existing memory.  I have 4 Gig on the laptop, Windows 7, 64bit.  With the /L switch I'm betting between 78 and 92 CPU usage with most of it being around 85% during renders.  I'll try this on my workstation tomorrow and report back.

    Andy

    Update:  Belay this on the /L.  You guys are right.  It makes no difference in the 64 bit worlds anyway.

    Re: Windows 7 and Liquid 7.2

    Only thing, Andy, is that use of the 3gig switch in 32bit OS causes trouble with certain video overlays as in the capture window. It will be interesting to see whether this occurs with a 64bit OS.
