Re: My first free Liquid tool!!!
It doesn’t matter what I put in the time line. btw, my timeline settings are: Preset - 1080/59.94i, Frame Rate - 29.97, Res, - 1920x1080 sqr, FX - low Q, Render - your 160.
Oh, and this morning when I first booted I could play the rendered areas, but as soon as I dropped something else in the TL and rendered it, none of the rendered areas would play again.
Thnx

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!!
hopefully NextGen will address these limitations in AL 7.2, a.o. AVCHD import
but in the meantime, any other suggestion for achieving no-full-re-encode when exporting full HD MPEG-2 would be much appréciated

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!! (Liquid HD m2v presets)
A replacement for SONY's disgusting excuse for the clip browsing software for EX1 users. My tool demuxes the mp4 files into m2v and wav files and it will create a xml file to directly import everything into Liquid with full timecode support.

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!! (Liquid HD m2v presets)
So I downloaded the pluigin, installed it, and exported the video in beautiful HD (M2V file)...but now what?
What do most user do with this M2V video.
I'd love to know how I can get this M2V video into Apple tv format (H264) from the M2V.
But if I was to export this to a blu ray disk, what product should I use?
Thanks,
Andre

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!! (Liquid HD m2v presets)
Andre,
What do you mean by “you exported the video in beautiful HD (M2V file)”? Did you convert some footage in Liquid and export to M2V? What format did you start with? And how did you export it? Did you Fuse it straight from the Timeline? What are you trying to do?
Sorry to answer your questions with so many more questions.
Roland

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!! (Liquid HD m2v presets)
Hi Roland,
Sorry for not giving enough info. I fused my timeline using Smetvid's 50 m/s Intra - M2V
I really just want to know what product is best for burning blu ray disks...something I have not attempted yet. Also if one was to save the video for playback on their computer, what format works best?
Thanks,
Andre

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!! (Liquid HD m2v presets)
Blu-ray output is only one small use of these codec presets. Their main function was to open up the world of intra frame editing for Liquid users. Intra frame editing is something many other nle systems enjoy. For example Premeire can use Cineform for enhanced HD editing. Edius has their own intra frame codec as well. Apple has their Prores422 codec for intermediate editing.
Many people who use other nle's enjoy using intermediate formats because they scrub faster and render faster. To a lot of people it feels just like editing DV and it makes their lives a bit easier.
For years we Liquid users had no real options for an intermediate HD format. For HD editing we had either HDV or uncompressed but there was no in between. These codec presets open up the m2v format so it can also be used as an intermediate format. It serves no specific function other then adding more format options to Liquid to expand it's usefullness for HD editing by at least a few more years.

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!! (Liquid HD m2v presets)
I’ve never output to Bluray yet, but if I did I would want to keep it at the highest level possible because it will get recompressed when converted to Bluray. So the best would be to Fuse it from an uncompressed timeline so you have all the info there. At least that’s my opinion. As for playing back on a computer, I use the Mpeg4 codec, which seems to holdup and look great but has small file sizes and streams well.

Not correct, I suppose you haven´t tried it, the yuv files created aren´t possible to handle for any other application, there is an ungoing bluray discussion thread, you might do a search

You are absolutely correct, I forgot all about that.
Liquid is so close. But not close enough.

And that is one of the targets for Smets codecs, you can use, for example, a 160 mbps render codec for your hd timeline and fuse it.
Will give a great quality and is able to handle by many other applications.

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!!
Hehee. The hack below is totally useless as all presets render at 50Mbit in PAL. The presets were for MPEG-2 MP@HL profile.
Sorry for the misinformation..
Priit
We started usig this modification and found one shortcoming: clips fused with I-Frame only codecs don't render with classic effects any more.
Looked a bit closer and found that video resolution is 720x576 @PAL but FAST/Pinnacle cahanged to 720x608 many years ago. It was due to the MPEG standard.
Modified the presets file the way that all I-Frame presets have <Flags>00000049</Flags>
There was <Flags>00000048</Flags>
Our file was here C:\Program Files\Avid\Avid Liquid Chrome Xe 7\Sites\C-STUUDIO\Settings\Codecs.XML but your file location differs as computer name is different and also installation path might be different.
Priit
Big thanks to Smetvid for this modification.

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!!
Thanks SmetVid for making these available. I used quite a lot of colour correction in my last project (balancing two different cameras) and was a little disappointed in the quality drop, so hopefully these will help next time.
My source material is 1080i50 HDV from a Canon XH-A1 and a Sony FX1. Target outputs are:
- HDV master tape (1080i50)
- Normal DVD (VBR 6Mbps average, 8Mbps max, normally)
I don't have huge amounts of spare disc space for render files. At this stage, I don't expect I'll be fusing the whole thing to an intermediate codec, just trying to squeeze a little better quality from transitions, time-warps and colour correction. I wonder if those who have been there before me could describe the sorts of difference to be expected by, say, using a 4:2:2 render codec instead of 4:2:0, or an I-frame only codec rather than an IPB version. Which presets should I try first?
Thanks in advance.

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!!
I've been reading this thread with interest but like some of the other posters could do with a somewhat simpler explanantion if this codec will aloow me to edit in hd on my system which is now about 4 years old, and could do with upgrading. However it handles sd material fine.
As a hobbyist rather than a pro, my normal work flow would be to set up a new project on a 16;9 DV timeline, easy capture material then edit and burn to dvd. Am I right in thinking that if I install Smetvid's codec I will be able to work with HD material by following the same sort of workflow? How do you then deal with the output. I understand fusiing etc but are most users burning to DVD via a third party application to create a blue ray disc?
I am using a sony FX1 which I believe records HD at 1440 x 1080i .
Sorry to sound a bit clueless, but codecs etc are a bit of a black hole for me.
Thanks
Dave

There are lots to read about codecs on the net, but to be short, hdv is a highly compressed format, running at 25 mbps, same speed as SD that has a much lower resolution.
Reencoding a highly compressed file is not so good, especially if you are doing it a couple of times.
Because of that, Liquid has the possibilities to use other, highspeed codecs to render hdv , as uncompressed and RGB.
Those are very highspeed codecs and, of course, creates very big render files.
Whilst the origin hdv render codec in Liquid runs at 25 mbps , the next step, named uncompressed, runs at about 850 mbps.
Smets codecs are filling the gap between those two, I have stopped to use uncompressed when rendering hd in Liquid, Smets Intra 160 mbps codec works as good as the uncompressed 850, at least my eyes aren´t seeing any difference.
edited:,
and for dvd creation, there are no differences from working with an Sd project, when your rendering is finished, you just run the dvd wizard and press " export to dvd "

Tomas, thankyou for responding.
So if we burn a dvd through the wizard we are getting much better quality, but obviously not BR?

Yes, better however not " much better" in my opinion, Liquid creates great dvd discs even from standard SD, you have to remember that dvd is still an old Sd format.
As Liquid was developed many years before bluray became invented, you of course have no Bd support from Liquid, I have started to try a new app for BD recently, creates bd popup menus and encodes very well, cost was 80 bucks when I bought it, it has a trial to try, test and decide. you might want to try it for yourself.
edited.. and I just did a little test, it seems like it isn´t reencoding fused standard hdv files exported out of a Liquid standard hdv timeline

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!!
Hi Tomas!
What do you mean by "fused standard HDV files exported out of Liquid timeline"?
Do you mean File->Export file->FUSE and make a M2V-file?
I have tried this but no BD-editing software recognizes this file-type, so i always end up with using HDV 1440x1080i MPEG2 export....

Re: My first free Liquid tool!!!
Hi Lars, quoted from my post, just click on the underlined try and you will be directed to an app that works with fused Liquid files.
"As Liquid was developed many years before bluray became invented, you of course have no Bd support from Liquid, I have started to try a new app for BD recently, creates bd popup menus and encodes very well, cost was 80 bucks when I bought it, it has a trial to try, test and decide. you might want to try it for yourself."
Edited.. we also seem to have got a bit OT in this thread now, it was from the beginning for Smets highspeed hd codecs, very good ones but if you use one of those, you have to use the ordinary export to mpg routine, a fuse will give you the same codec as your timeline settings and if you are using an 160 mbps codec, that one will surely not work on a bd disc without first being reencoded
