Can I use 1.7.4 meant for hava (jul/11/08) for PCTV TO GO HD wireless ?

    Hi Folks,

This is the first time I am using this site for PCTV to go wireless. I picked this box from ebay along with a Remote Kit for VISTA. The seller thought it was not an HD. Anyway the box is working great for me so far.

I noticed a new version of the software  1.7.4   for Hava wireless. I tried to check with Pinnacle if I could use it for PCTV to go wireless but they were not able to help.

Has anybody tried to use this software for pctv to go wireless ?

Also, has anyone have an idea if I could use the Remote Kit for Vista on my windows XP (with no Media center) to control my PCTV to go ? I downloaded a XP driver for it and know it the remote is working (as it types the channel number in a text pad) but the pctv does not pick the remote clicks.

    Thanks

    Uday

I did and everything seems to be working fine.  The package upgrades your firmware and gives you a nicer player interface as well.  Just run the setup wizard and it will walk you through a very familiar process.  Also, from my experience, Hava's support for this product is far superior than that of Pinnacle.

As far as your second question, I don't know.  If it does work are you able to record in media center?

I do not have media center on my laptop. I only have XP.

I did intall the hava 1.7.4 and it seems to working fine except some audio sync problem.

    Hello Yazman,

Do you know if the upgrade using HAVA will let you go back to PCTV To Go HD Wireless?

    Thanks,

I haven't tried so I don't know.  But, according to the Hava folks, you can revert back to a previous firmware version (which may be the only issue).  The question would then be can you go from a Hava released firmware to an older Pinnacle released firmware?  That I don't know.

Has anyone in this forum tried?

Re: Can I use 1.7.4 meant for hava (jul/11/08) for PCTV TO GO HD wireless ?

I updated my PCTVTOGO to HAVA (much better support, wish I had known previously as I would not have bought the Pinnacle)

Anyway, HAVA firmware 152.115-32 works fine on the Pinnacle as does the 1.74 player (albeit a nag screen that the firmware is out of date)

I did update the firmware to the latest Hava firmware revision 262.289-32 but that broke the WIFI, it would never even attempt to connect to the access point (Ethernet still works ok and the PCTVTOGO SSID during initial setup still worked), I then found a 262.290-32 beta firmware (exactly the same problem as 262.289-32)

Reverting back to older Hava firmware 152.115-32 fixed the WIFI issue.

One thing to note if setting up the Pinnacle using the Hava software and Hava firmware 152.115-32 via wireless is that the Hava software will not detect the Pinnacle Box - reason for this..

Hava is looking for an access point with an SSID of HAVAMONSOONxxxx

but the Pinnacle has an SSID of PCTVTOGOxxxx (Hava firmware does not change this code, this also goes for the Telnet logon that will still prompt PCTVTOGO login:, irrelevant as no one knows the password but I thought Id mention it anyway)

To allow the HAVA software to detect your PCTVTOGO box using wireless setup then navigate to HKCU\Software\Monsoon Multimedia\HAVA\Setup Wizard and change the HAVASSID entry from HAVAMONSOON to PCTVTOGO. (this only works on 152.115-32 firmware - possibly older, but I have not tested - but as far as I can tell does not work with the latest 2.. series Hava firmware releases :-(

NB. After changing the SSID in the registry a PC reboot will be required before HAVA sees the Pinnacle via wireless setup.

Curious how 2 people were able to get 1.7.4 working without effort, while a 3'rd was not able to.

I would like to benefit from the supposed stability that 1.7.4 offers (see fixes).

    Agreed.

And Pinnacle:  If there are no plans to update to this product, then please TELL us that there aren't, and we'll stop asking.

According to a reply posted in "Price Drop" it appears PCTV2go firmware updates are a thing of the past.
