    Really old Liquid Control jog/shuttle?

I've a Liquid Jog/shuttle control on a Silver system I intend to retire as soon as my ChromeXE is up and running. This is a serial control, not USB. It also requires power which is suppliced from one of the Silver boards. I was told at one time it would still work with a serial to USB adapter but the power still has me stumped. This is a great jog/shuttle. I'm kind or looking forward to giving the Silver a dignified funeral but I'll really miss that knob. The ideal answer would be if someone knows what the power requirement are so I could go out and buy an adapter. Other ideas ideas are welcome.

Send a PM off to Joe Figura (jfigura). He can tell you exactly what needs to be done.

I don't know if this is still sold but there was at one time a USB cable that replaced the origional one. One can also convert the power end to a USB and pull the power from USB and the control still over 9pin. There are many ways to do this.

First, good to hear from you again. I still have a txt file on my Silver's desktop where I'd put all the useful tips and tricks I copied from your Fast 601/Silver forum.
Anyway, so all I really need to do is make up an adapter for the power plug that connects to a USB port? That's good news.Smile

    Hello Marc,

Glad to see you are still Liquid. the Power can be converted to use USB power. Its fairly small wires, depending on your soldering skills you may want someone to do it for you. Somewhere I have the specs on that power, if Joe has them readily available, great, otherwise I will continue to look for them. I might be able to get it out of someone in Munich as well...Tim S likely knows.

Re: Really old Liquid Control jog/shuttle?

    Here's how I solved this....

My Silver / Purple Jog Shuttle originally drew its power from a plug on the Fast firewire card.  I wanted to replce the card with a FW 800 but was reluctant to give up the Jog Shuttle power.  Closer inspection showed that although the JS accessed power via the cards external connection plate, the inside connection to that did not get it's power from the card at all.  Rather it was powered by an additional internal adapter connector which actually tapped into one of the extra drive power connectors.

Waht I did was pull the card, unscrew the firewire card from the plate assembly and throw it away, keeping only the JS power adaptor and duc taping over the vacant firewire slots to seal them off. Re-installed the plate and re-connected the power cable and presto...  Nice because the power source can be moved from system to sytem.

Now if someone would write some universal application software for the JS making it available to other editing systems this would be cool....  comes under Fat Chance....

    Later,
    Andy

I considered a variation on your fix. What I did was follow Brad's advice. I opened up the serial connector, removed the wire and power plug and soldered a USB cable in its place. Attached the serial cable, attached the USB connector. Runs like a champ.

I shall now stop Searching all the HD's for the doc   Glad it works, the JS is a great add on. I have an extra but am reluctant to part with it.

Thanks Brad. I would hang on to your extra for dear life. If I remember correctly it was wicked expensive as well. One of the nicest job shuttles I've ever used and that includes the big hardware days of CMX, Convergence and Ampex, etc.

Anybody know where I can get my hands on one of the Jog Shuttles? They were great.

Re: Really old Liquid Control jog/shuttle?

    Hi

Long time since posting here, still have my Fast-601 on a PC-DL and I just installed a Decklink card and AL 7.2 so I am trying to get my Jog/Shuttle to work with AL7 and I still have the Silver/601 hardware installed so I have power and have the Jog/Shuttle plugged into the serial port but no go with AL7. Will it only recognize the J/S over USB?
