Remote Control doesn't work at all! :(

I have a new PCTV HD Pro Stick which I have just installed on a 2.8GHz PC with 1GB memory under XP SP2.

Missing from any of the instructions provided or any information on the web-site, is any indication of where the remote control IR receiver is on this device.

By elimination, I am "assuming" it is the "led" on the body of the device, nearest the USB plug. Is this correct??

In any case,  even with verified fresh batteries, the remote control seems completely DEAD! I have tried the "test" software with no results whatsoever.

The remote control test software refers to flashing LEDs ... what LEDS??? Does it mean the little do-nothing icons on the screen??!!#$%^&*

The manual refers to 24-hour product support. This is obviously nonsense as a recording says it is a business hour support line.

I'm beginning to get buyer's remorse and I haven't even had this thing for 24hrs yet!

Presuming the remote control itself is dead, can I obtain a warranty replacement?

basically, you just need to configure the software to accepte the remote.

Go to settings and then remote control. On the pictures, select your remot model. Check the box that says, Start IR service at Startup. Hit Apply and then Close. restart your computer.

Here is the complete remote troubleshooting guide.

    Did all that already.
Here is the complete remote troubleshooting guide.
The icon in the task bar is 'black", not "yellow". Cannot get any response. Period.

BTW, when opening the "black" remote icon in the task bar, it says the PCTV 800e USB IR is in use and Receive=All.

Do you have a digital camea or a mobile phone with camera? Open the camera software and point the remote to the lens and press the buttons. Does the LED lit in the camera?

Also, when you use the test button in the remote troubleshooting, does the led butons lit also?

    No.

Re: Remote Control doesn't work at all! :(

OK, I got sent here from another thread (http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/223587.aspx), much the same problem in that the remote doesn't work, but in my case it's a Dual Hybrid PCIe card that's failing to receive. And yes, to answer the question on the other thread I definately do have sp3, and Add/Remove programs confirms it.

I stepped through the earlier advice on testing the remote ... had done it a few times already, but I did it again anyway and it still doesn't work. The little test lights completely ignore my remote, they don't respond in any way, and I have all the right settings set.

I then did the camera/mobile phone camera test of the remote's LED light ... and YES I did see the LED lights flashing away. That's gotta be the coolest tip I've heard in ages by the way.

So any more ideas on what can be tested?

Cavu, contact support to replace your remote control.

PJF, please tell me what you see on settings>remote control.

Re: Remote Control doesn't work at all! :(

OK. There are pictures of seven different types of remote controls which looks like the one I've got, is selected. There is a smaller picture of the same remote control last one on the right, with a big red cross over it.

Underneath is a checkbox (ticked) to "Run IR receiver service at startup."

Under that is a selection box for "IR receiver device", and in the box is "PCTV Dual Hybrid Pro PCIe - IR"

I have in fact tried all seven remote options, each time with and without the checkbox selected (the crossed out one doesn't allow me to choose any further options, and neither does the curvy shaped remote picture next to it), and for all 11 of the available combinations I have also tried both of the available options in selection box (the other option is PCTV "Dual Hybrid Pro PCIe, device 2 - IR") ... all 22 combinations failed in the test box, and they also failed in the test options from the system tray icon.

The system tray icon by the way is a yellow colour with some black dots on it, and is set to "Recieve - all", and the "Pinnacle 2010i IR" device is ticked.

Re: Remote Control doesn't work at all! :(

With the correct remote selected and Run IR receiver at Startup checked, click on OK and Close.  Restart the computer and then test the remote using the test feature in the system tray remote icon. If the remote will not respond, fill up the two boxes with either 1 or 0 or test what combination would work. If the test buttons will respond, test with the software.

Re: Remote Control doesn't work at all! :(

Still no good. Did all that, tried two 0s, two 1s, one of each, both ways around, and also tried "0000", "1111" and all combinations of those.

I recall some time ago there was a 13 and/or maybe a 15 in these boxes (back when it was all working still) ... so I've tried those numbers in various combinations as well. Should I be trying all numbers and combinations up to 9999? That's a lot of trial and error.

What are the numbers for? What do they mean? Maybe if I understood them I could work out what the numbers should be?

Re: Remote Control doesn't work at all! :(

It could be that the IR Receiver is not getting the signal from the remote.

Re: Remote Control doesn't work at all! :(

That could well be the case. The Remote is sending a light. The PMC software is configured correctly, and the environmental conditions have been tested ... I'm guessing the IR Receiver is failing to receive or transmit the signal.

     So what now?

If you ask me, explain this to support and ask for replacement.
