    How can I...?

Show all unread posts in all of the English Studio forums? I used to be able to do that in the old version.

    Re: How can I...?

Currently you're not able to do that. Hopefully they're working on a fix. I'd also like to see the default time length rememebered too. Currently it defaults for me to "New in the Last Month" Sad I'd like it to be New Since Last Visit Smile

    Re: How can I...?

Ick! I would like to see the Language filter fixed as well. In the past, I read almost every new post daily. Here I do good to get through a page or two. Focusing on each line to translate is not much fun.

What's bad is when you come back a second time. Very few of your own language amongst the many.

It's almost as hard as picking out the cashews in the party mix. Indifferent

I'm not sure who beta-tested the forum (I recall someone from Pinnacle warning us of the impending change), but I guess they didn't ask the users how we use the user forum.

    Pinnacle, is a patch forthcoming?Wink

    Re: How can I...?

Just in case I'm missing something here but in the interim I'm using the forum this way

Click on Posts you have not read. Click on Forum box at top - default is All forums - If you go to English Forum it doesn't hold and reverts to All forums. However if you go to next one down Pinnacle Studio Family it does hold and from then on you are only seeing the English posts. They are of course in Forum sections and posts you haven't read can be chosen by the icon flags along side each post. Not ideal but I'm wondering is this the best way of sorting them until the filter is fixed?
Anyone doing it a better way?

    Re: How can I...?

George has the solution in this post HERE.

    Thanks George.  Smile

(note: Italian isn't one of the options to exclude, so that will still show up)

Thanks Kayla & George - and I agree with Towbar - the options weren't there last time I looked either - You'd think someone from Pin would have mentioned it  Hmm

Crying [:'(] How can I...Get The Filters Fixed?

Back in the old days, we had a Forum. The forum was easy to use, and it didn't require a whole lot of effort to "Keep Up With Every New Post". By simply selecting the "Show All Unread Posts", we were able to review all that we had not read that day, and reply to all that we were knowledgeable in. We could actually read posts in specific "Versions", simplifying and clarifying the process even more. All  profiles were clearly shown up front, so there were minimal questions as to the users hardware.  Smileys were keystrokes, and quotes were simple HTML. No buttons, no thrills. But we could pump out some answers, and we had a lot of energy coming from many seasoned users. It was a simpler time.

Now in the new forum, if we want to simply read "All Unread Posts" in one click, we can most certainly do that. But first, we need to "Visually" scroll through the languages we don't understand. We have to decide whether we want to see Liquid or Studio. The selections are made, and we get started. There are several different versions that are all lumped in together, so if we choose to assist someone, we have to either guess, or ask some questions. Since the profile is hidden behind door number 1, a lot of new users don't know it exists. So again, we ask more questions. A lot of extra work, just to get started. A new forum, but much more work involved.

The filters used to work pretty well, and the occasional Italian post didn't bother too much. Now we are  weeding out the languages and  sifting through both Studio and Liquid posts, just to find our place.    Whether you notice it or not, there are less seasoned users here on this new forum, in comparison to the old. Many of those that aren't here today have said that they find this forum unenjoyable, and those statements haven't necessarily been voiced here on this forum. I'm not the only one that has requested this fix.

With all due respect to all that are reading this, I'll ask to step outside of the box for a moment. This forum has been graciously offered by Pinnacle, and I am most thankful for that. It is by far the best and most useful forum I have seen for NLE. I'm sure the strength of this forum is an added benefit of the software, for the word gets out. As a general rule, this forum is mostly supported by users. There have been many times in the past where the moderators didn't post for weeks, even though they were asked to do so. Here on the new forum, there seems to be more effort from Pinnacle to have their voice heard. It's obvious that they are listening in on the new version to make it better. The recent addition of several moderators will only add to it's strength. I'm leading up to the point that Pinnacle needs to help fix up this forum, so we can continue to happily help their new and returning users, as well as sharing thoughts amongst ourselves.

These are my opinions entirely, but none-the-less quite valid. I'm not trying to pat my own back, nor am I attempting to denigrate Pinnacle in any way, shape or form. Surely a fix for this forum just can't be so hard to do.

I started asking this question a long time ago, and I would like ask it one more time,

"Pinnacle, if you are seeing this, is there any chance that the filters will be fixed anytime soon?"

    Sincerely,
    Mike

Re: How can I...Get The Filters Fixed?

Well said Mike - I agree completely. The bells and whistles are nice but the forum does not "flow" like the old one, probably for some of the reasons you gave.  I have also noticed the gradual disappearance of some of the old hands (and their Knowledge). If it wasn't for the "My discussion" section it would be even harder. I find that it is much more difficult to keep track of the threads that you are interested in but haven't actually responded to, than it used to be.  Those threads therefore don't appear in your "My discussion" section - almost worth a one word post pad just to get those topics where you can keep an eye on them - no, there is no way I'm turning on email notification in case that's suggested. Smile

Come on Pinnacle - how about at least a more detailed explanation of exactly what the problem is - I think there was a vague reason of a problem with the Italian langage filter?? - or did I miss that thread too Wink

Yup, THIS is the one. Also, the filters were put on the list back in MAY.

Re: How can I...Get The Filters Fixed?

    Mike,

You have summed up my thoughts exactly.  I have been floating around the Pinnacle forum since the days of S7 and S8, so I suppose I would consider myself a "seasoned" user.  Like you, on the old forum, I had a bookmark to the "posts since last visit" and would read most posts during the day, offering help where I could.

When we moved to the current forum, I was certainly willing to give it a chance, and I always like to try something new.  But I find that I am spending less and less time here for all the reasons you suggest.  The volume of threads in the Liquid forums has become a big turn-off for me browsing through the unread threads.  (On a brighter note, it certainly appears that there are not many users with S11 problems requiring help.  Yes)

After  many indications by Bertrand that the filters were being worked on,  it appears that this is definitely not a priority to whoever is in charge of this forum.  Now Warren and his new helpers have entirely ignored my inquiry on this subject.  Sad So I don't hold out much hope for any improvement.  Perhaps Fixing the Forum Filters has too many F-words to get through to the powers-that-be.  Wink

Re: How can I...Get The Filters Fixed?

    Lets try this again.

I'm wondering if there is any remote chance of getting the language filters fixed, so I can go back to my preferred way of reading all posts that I have not read.

I did notice that the date filter has been fixed to show more than the last 30 days of posting. And I'm sure that the new users will appreciate it immensely. (I'm thankful too.) I however am trying to read all that I have not seen and have a sincere interest in. I find it quite a hindrance to wade through the topics that I have no knowledge of, and also don't understand the ones that are in different languages. I find myself staring at a page or so and then somewhat lose my interest.

Any type of response that will answer my questions will be greatly appreciated. If the forum languages can't be fixed I would appreciate a direct answer that they are unfixable. Also, if the "Posts you have not read" will always ignore my wishes to not display certain forums, then I would like to be informed of that too.

I don't think that I have ever seen a true answer to these concerns. On the same note, I have seen several attempts to fix these things. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who likes to navigate the forum by reading all of the new posts in one fair swoop. What I'm not sure of is that anybody is really attempting to fix this.

With all due respect to the ones that can help, I need a little help here. Even though the OT forum has been quite a hoot, I'm sure that my time would be better served in a more productive kind of way. Indifferent

**ADDED** I would love to post a few links to the early conversations about this issue, but for some reason they have been deleted. Embarrassed

Re: How can I...Get The Filters Fixed?

    Towbar,

I hope to get the language filter back soon. We will be implementing a real Italian forum with Italian selection. Then the language filter will be turned on again and this will life easier...

    Let's keep our fingers crossed....

Re: How can I...Get The Filters Fixed?

    Bertrand,

It's nice to have a portion of the filters back; it sure does simplify the way I would like to read this forum.

I'll pass along my thanks to you, and you can share this with the responsible parties.

Sorry to rattle the chain a bit, but occasionally it's hard "not to do so".

    Grazie, Bertrand. Wink
