Liquid Chrome XE and audio only capture

     Hi there all Liquid people.

I'm experiencing annoying problem here with 2 editing systems, and would like to someone to verify my foundings. We cannot capture audio only thru Xena card. So by ticking V off and enabling only audio A1 /A2 we cannot capture only audio, system captures only few frames and then gives the annoying error message that capture has ended.

    Can somebody second that?

AW: Liquid Chrome XE and audio only capture

It's a known "feature" with liquid. But it's an easy fix too. I don't know why but liquid wants a video signal even if you just record audio. So i usually just put on a plain dvd player an plug it in via composite or s-video. You then have to record both video and audio, otherwise liquid says nogo!

Switch off the video of the resulting clip and copy the the audio on your harddrive via x-send. Now you have a good audio file to work with. It's a little bit of a pain in the .. you know where, but it works.

    Hope that helps

Is this related exclusively to Xe? I've not had this problem with Liquid. When I'm capturing only audio, I more typically rip the CD and import the audio file.

This is not about ripping files, it´s about live capturing audio in Liquid, in 7,2 Pro, when you are using the bob, the same workflow is needed, you just connect a dvd player or something to your video - in on the bob and then you are able to capture audio.

Re: Liquid Chrome XE and audio only capture

I am able to capture only audio using Liquid with the Pro BOB.  I don't have or use Chrome so I can't answer for that specific case.  At least with Liquid, as long as there is a valid video signal connected to the selected input, you can turn off video capture with the "V" button and only capture audio.  I've done this with analog and with optical and coax digital.  For the logging tool to initialize, a video signal has to be present.  With the Xena, I don't know what's possible or not possible.  There are others here using Chrome and the Xena who should be able to answer specifically about that situation.

Re: AW: Liquid Chrome XE and audio only capture

Thanks for your reply, there is active video signal being fed to the Xena input composite, sdi, component tested. So the "sync" is ok.  With Xena card Machina utility this works like charm.. This seems to be bug within Liquid 7.2 software.

I still would like to some Chrome XE user to test and comment this - anybody?

Yes it is a bug. Right now the only way to capture audio is do capture the video with it, and as stated before, export out as audio only and then re-import. Thats the problem with a dying system.

Re: AW: Liquid Chrome XE and audio only capture

I have never really done this before but it doesn't work for me either.  I don't really see this as a big deal however.  I usually use more robust audio tools for capturing from audio only sources which is why I have never even tried this before.  If you don't want to spend the money on a good audio tool the free Audacity works great for recording 2 channel audio through your sound card.

I'm not sure if I would call this a bug or just a lack of a feature.  The Xena board uses a totally different set of drivers and method of interfacing with Liquid then the Pro Bob and this is likely a by product of those totally differet drivers.  I think the time just wasn't taken to add in this hardly ever used function.

Re: AW: Liquid Chrome XE and audio only capture

This is not a bug. Liquid 7’s logging tool (or EZ capture), are designed to capture video with audio. So if they do not get a video input they expect that something is wrong.

For only capturing audio you would need a separate audio capture tool (like in Xpress PRO or Mediacomposer), which is not available in Liquid.
