Re: Pinnacle studio 23 "time remapping" speed increase "CUDA" not working

I am not seeing a 13x slower than real time. On my computer, I see it as 2x as fast as real time. I placed a 30 second clip (mp4) on the timeline and did a 50% speed reduction. Time to render, 15 seconds.

Re: Pinnacle studio 23 "time remapping" speed increase "CUDA" not working

This is specific to the ops source footage Tony. If I use my own clips I do not have an issue until I resize them. I also have the same  issueon an Intel laptop.

The issue here is the thread title The op has jumped to the conclusion that cuda isn't working, when it's just a plain old fashioned bug.

Re: Pinnacle studio 23 "time remapping" speed increase "CUDA" not working

I used pinnacle screen capture to record a 15 second 3840 x 2160 video clip.  Placed it on the timeline of a new project.  Time Remapped to 500%.  Exported H.264/AVC 3840 x 2160.  It took 14+- seconds.  i9-9900k no video card.  Task Mgr CPU 41%+-, GPU 26%+-.

I selected the clip, added random cropping to all four sides using Editor/Properties.  17 Seconds+- to export

I selected the clip and added 115.9 editor/properties/size in addition to the crop.  17 Second+- to export

I removed the editor/properties/size and used pan and zoom to zoom in 11.844.  19 Seconds+- to export

I used pinnacle screen capture to record a 11 second 734 x 948 video clip.  Placed it on the timeline of a new project.  Time Remapped to 500%.  Exported H.264/AVC 3840 x 2160.  It took 14+- seconds.

Added 500% time remapping to the clip.  Exported.  It took 7+- seconds.

asscot - all that is missing is your hardware. I've looked in your profile and it's not in your sig either. Also what HW acceration setting?

You could maybe try to download the project I have shared on google drive and see if that works as expected.

Sorry, it was on the first of those trial posts yesterday.  I9-9900k, no graphics card, hw acceleration set to intel.

Only you can use an .axp file since you have the source material. You have to create a "package" of your project by File>Save As>Save as type>Studio Project Package (*.axx)

    Hi Fullmakt

I downloaded the wmv file and apx files which references the wmv.  Because the video file is wmv I assume you captured using the older Live Screen Capture program rather than the Multicam Capture Lite which came with PS23. I'm not sure if this is a factor but its something to take note. Here are my results using your video:

    1. Noremap: 10 sec
    2. Transitions: 15 sec
    3. Timeremap: 45 sec
Therefore on my system, the time remapping extended the rendering 4.5 times but not 13 times as on your system.

What hardware acceleration were you using for those rendering test times?  Intel or AMD?

Re: Pinnacle studio 23 "time remapping" speed increase "CUDA" not working

    jjn:

Scratch all that, it looks like the problem is with the source material and time remapping. However, it's not as simple as using a Pinnacle Screen capture. It seems to be related to using a custom resolution.

Case 1 - full screen capture, time remapping export flies.

Case 2 - custom capture resolution, time remapping export is dog slow.

    Can anyone confirm?

    Hi jnn,

Using Live Screen Capture to produce a 60 second wmv clip and time remapped to 12 seconds. My full screen size is 2560 x 1440 but the video file produced resulted in 1920 x 1080. The custom screen was 1920 x 1080 and resulted in a video 1920 x 1080.

    Results:

Case 1 - full screen capture render 11 sec; Time remapping render 55 sec

Case 2 - Custom capture render 10 sec; Time remapping render 45 sec

There is a 10 second difference between the two remapping renders and the custom is actually less but I don't think its statistically significant; meaning both are in the same ballpark and more or less validates my tests I conducted for Fullmarkt; specifically for my machine.

Conclusion: for my machine, the rendering of time remapping takes about 4.5 to 5.5 times longer. Full screen vs custom screen didn't seem to matter in this particular test. Perhaps it depends on what type/size of custom screen is created to see a different result.

Question; How does Live Screen Capture compare to generating screen captures with Multicam Capture Lite?

MCC Lite can generate MP4 H.264 files up to 30 FPS while LSC generates WMV VC-1 files. But the WMV files are encoded using a very low bitrate compared to the ones genretaed by MCC Lite.

I would like to use the file he used in his testing. A Pinnacle package would work just fine.

    Hi acsscott,

The acceleration is based on my AMD Radeon 520 which is pretty lightweight. If I use my internal Intel graphics chip, it renders in about the same time.

    Hi Tony P,

What is your result if you use Fullmakt's video clip called capture_test.wmv which you can download from the link he provided?

Thanks.  I have been considering getting an AMD card and adding it to my system for rendering and leaving my monitor on the CPU via the motherboard. But it seems like during my export testing on this threads issue, task Mgr says PS was only using 41%+- CPU  &  26%+- GPU.

I just experienced this same time remapping slow down out of the Blue.  I have saved a project package and two screen video captures of what happens when it starts.  I will start a new thread and post the link here after I upload the Screen videos and package.

    Attachment: PS23 Time Remap2.jpg

500% speed increase. It did take a while... sorry didn't time it, but it was painfully slow.

No GPU acceleration during the timeline render (Optimization 85).

At 200% it went by rather quick. It was when I went to 300% that things slowed down to a crawl. I would think this would happen (the slow down) as you increase the speed. A lot has to be done.

Re: Pinnacle studio 23 "time remapping" speed increase "CUDA" not working

I'm not sure if this issue happened in PS23, PS22, or a patch to PS23?  I didn't notice it in PS21.  I purchased, but never installed PS22.  I hadn't used time remapping in a project for a while until yesterday in PS23u .297.  That's when I noticed the slow down and less than 10% CPU and GPU usage when it is rendering this time remapped clip.  It is a 1080P 240FPS clip.  I didn't have smooth motion selected.

Re: Pinnacle studio 23 "time remapping" speed increase "CUDA" not working

It is hard to judge time remap with using different sources of video with different codecs shot from different cameras or screen captures with different bitrates and frame rates.

With the footage I normally use (from cameras listed below), in addition I have no need to do 500% speed ramp up, for what I do, I have no problems.

For "me" and what I use it for, it's working.
