    Re: Betreft: Re: Smartsound issue

On Smartsound download website still showing V 6.4.

Where is the link to 6.4.1?

    Re: Betreft: Re: Smartsound issue

It is not released to the public. Long time SS users (I've been using it since 2002) who have been in contact with SS are given the d/l link to see if things are better. Like a "beta" test.

They are (but for me at least, I have to run both PS and SS as Administrator), and if I delete a SS song from the timeline, if I try and add another SS song, I get the error message that SS can not be activated.

So there is some more work needed.

    Re: Betreft: Re: Smartsound issue

Just got email from SmartSound telling me it is relesed now.

BTW, I didn't need SS nor PS to run as Adminstrator for it to work.

    Re: Smartsound issue

The one I tested doesn't say it's 6.4.1 either, and that came from Frank.

Did you download it from a link given in your email or from the SmartSound website. The copy on the website does not appear to have been updated yet (I just tried re-downloading and got the same (version 6.4.0) files as I had previously - file modified date 22 August)

    Smartsound issue

There was no link in the email so I downloaded it from the website.

Modified date is 22 August here also.

Thinking things over, I wonder where the "name" 6.4.1 came from. I don't think that Frank from SS ever mentioned such a version.

I got a test version from Frank on 29 of August, that was a post 6.4 version but he referred to it as 6.4 so I think there has never been a 6.4.1

I seem to remember it happened before that they changed some minor things without changing the full build number.

    Re: Smartsound issue

The email I got from Frank included a link he said to download 6.4.1.

Although that number never appeared as a version number, that is what he said to me.

From Frank: "First, please try updating Sonicfire Pro by downloading the 6.4.1 installer from the link below:"

It could be an internal update number for SS, and they left it as 6.4 for everyone.

    Re: Smartsound issue

I got the test build from a link and Frank referred to it as 6.4.

It was a Wetransfer link that is no longer working.

I was invited by Frank to test the "fix" too - the file I downloaded from Frank's email link was named "SonicfirePro6.4.1.exe". So there was definitely some reference to a "6.4.1". The file on the website (with contents having a "modified date" of 22 Aufust is the original 6.4 release - so surprising it actually works with Studio. My guess is that installing the test version has "put something right" in the Registry so Studio is (still) able to find the SS plugin.

I'll look on the SS website again tomorrow - if the revised update is only just released today the website might get updated overnight (US time).

    Re: Smartsound issue

Thanks Richard.... there is a file size difference between Frank's d/l version and the one on SS website now.

Since the "beta" version is working, I'll just leave it alone. Sort of tired installing/uninstalling/re-installing if you know what I mean....

    Re: Smartsound issue

Lo and behold, I redownloaded the so called latest build (6.4 or 6.4.1?) a few mins ago and updated previous 6.1 on my editing machine and what is the result??? No more SmartSound button in PS22.

No PS23 yet on that machine.

    Re: Smartsound issue

After several uninstall/re-install attempts of both PS22 and SFP6 (6.1 and 6.4) as is but also as administrator, I can't get the SS button back in PS.

My yesterday update to 6.4 broke it for all PS versions (17 up to 22) on the system and I see no immediate way to fix this.

    Re: Smartsound issue

Oh! When I had that problem, uninstalling PS22 and then reinstalling it solved that problem. Do you still have the "beta" version of the software? I am guessing you already tried that too?

When I first tried SFP 6.4 and "things broke" I was able to get things working again by an uninstall/reinstall sequence; at no point did I need to do anything special such as installing SFP or Studio with administrator rights

    • On initial install of SFP 6.4, SS functionality disappeared from all 32-bit versions (PS15, Avid Studio PS16) and 64-bit versions (PS19, 22, 23)
    • Uninstalling SFP 6.4 and reinstalling SFP 6.1.6 restored the SS functionality in all 32-bit Studio versions with no action needed in those 32-bit Studio versions. But the SS button was still missing in the 64-bit versions (PS19, 22 and 23)
    • Uninstalling and reinstalling PS23 (a "repair install" also works here) got SS working again in all the 64-bit versions

However I do recall encountering an issue a while back when SS stopped working in 64-bit versions (possibly PS19 or PS20?) and in that case it was actually necessary to uninstall and reinstall an older 64-bit version that was present (in my case PS18) to get things working again. So if you do have an older 64 bit version installed (not just PS22, it may be worth uninstalling and reinstalling that older version to see if that "mends" the SS button, and then reinstall PS22.

    Hi

If you have a Restore Point created prior to installing SFP6.4/6.4.1 you could roll back to that.

I also found that SFP6.4 showed 21 less tracks than the SFP6.1 version.  After rolling back I also needed to recover the Smartsound Software Inc folder from a manual backup.

I don't follow what you mean. Are you reporting you had other songs that now do not show up?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I was looking for a procedure to use when no restore point is available.

Will now try Richard's workflow to see if that's the way to go.

    The system used for this has versions 15, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22 installed.

    More to follow.

    Re: Smartsound issue

    Hi Tony

In SFP, below the 'Like' column there is a counter that displays the number of items.  In SFP6.1 it showed 938 items.  After installing the SFP6.4 update the counter only showed 917 items so I assumed that 21 songs were missing.  After running Library Update in 6.4 it remained at 917.

After Uninstalling SFP6.4 and eventually PS22 (after a Registry clean) and re-installing SFP6.1 and PS22 the SS icon was still missing and I couldn't get it back on the Task Bar in Studio.

When I rolled back to a manual Restore Point created prior to the 6.4 install the counter in SFP 6.1 showed 917 items.

I copied the Smartsound Software Inc folder from a manual backup and the item count showed 938 again. It was too difficult to find which items were missing.

Details were advised to Smartsound Support.

Due to the AVCHD/AC3 problem with Windows 7, I still run PS22 as all my source video is AVCHD.  Originally, it appeared that the SFP 6.4 (not 6.4.1 provided separately) issue only related to the SS icon not appearing in PS23, but Smartsound Support has since confirmed that PS22 is also impacted.  It now seems that all PS versions are probably impacted.

I haven't installed the 6.4.1 patch (provided separately) as it appeared to be somewhat smaller than the 6.4 exe file.

If you need more details I could create a Restore Point and try Installing the 6.4.1 patch and see what happens.  I'm just a bit wary of not being able to get everything working again and I have much editing to complete, although roll-back to the Restore Point does seems to work fine.

    Hi Chris,

Thanks for reporting back your experience. I've seen to have lost a few songs myself, but I'm not just ready to go pulling old hard drives and trying to back up everything. I just wanted to be sure it's not a "fluke".

I have installed a "beta" version of the software and am hesitant of uninstalling/reinstalling since SS is a part of my editing workflow.

Glad you let SS know about what you have experienced.

    Re: Smartsound issue

Thanks Richard, I have it back on the rails.

    My steps to get there:

    1. Uninstall SFP 6.4 and install 6.1.1 (in my case)

That fixed it for PS15 and PS17 being the 32bit versions but not for 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22

    2. Repair install of 22: That din't fix it for the 64bit versions.

    3. Repair install of 18: That din't fix it for the 64bit versions eighter

    4. Complete uninstall/re-install of PS18: This brought the SS button back in all 64bit versions. The 18 version installed was 18.0.0.225 and that version crashed shortly after I hit the SS button in it.

    5. Updated 18.0.0.225 to 18.5.1.827 and finally to 18.6.0.865 and all is ok now.
