Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
Hi Marc P. Has Pinnacle actually tried to capture HDV from a Sony or Canon camcorder using Studio 12.1 with a PC that is running Vista 64?

That's a good question. I personally have not tried yet. I'll have to dig around more to get you an answer for it.

Hi
It's fantastic.
6 month has gone, and there are still no answer from Pinnacle support of how to deal with this problem.
I am not very impressed.

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
Hi everyone,
Studio 12 does work with Windows 64.
I use the Sony HV1, FX7 and HC7 camcorders connected by firewire to a PC with Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.83 GHz and 8 Gb RAM. Windows Vista Home Premium, SP2, 64 bits. All works seamlessly with Studio 12 Ultimate.
Hope this helps.
I've just acquired a Sony EX1 solid-state camcorder, and have yet to try importing HDV files from this camcorder into Pinnacle Studio 12 - I just hope it works!

Do you mean Windows Vista 64? If so then yes it should work fine.

Studio 12.1 works with W. Vista 64, but still Studio can NOT import HD Video from a Canon XHA1

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
I've experienced the same problem with Studio Ultimate 12.1 importing from a Canon HV20 using Vista x64. I've also started getting a message that my video card doesn't have enough graphics memory to support HD. (It does, and Pinnacle support even agreed that it does.) However, HD capture didn't work before the message either. I've chatted with support several times over the past couple of years (and past few product versions), without any success. They eventually ask me to send a sample HD movie. (Duh! If I could, I wouldn't be calling them with problems with HD capture.) Like you, I can import anything I want until I attempt HD.
What's odd in my situation is that on rare occasion, I've been able to import HD without any problems. I've tried removing any software/codecs which could be conflicting, and have re-installed the software (with their clean-up procedure) several times. I've re-installed the graphics drivers and everything else they suggest. Nothing has fixed the problem.
I'm extremely frustrated that they acknowledge a problem, but never seem to be able to pinpoint it or correct it. I'm really tired of purchasing version upgrades in hopes of correcting the problem, only to find nothing has changed.
If anyone knows of a product which reliably captures from an HV20 on Vista x64 with a decent feature set, I'm interested in switching.

There have been several reports about the Canon HDV cameras to have unstable compatibility with Vista 64. I'll look for the thread where this was discussed. I'll update my post as soon as I find it.

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
Agreed. I'm not convinced it isn't a camera problem, even though I have been able to capture HD from my Canon using Studio. I can capture low-def video without any problems at all. My main concern is that I've also seen quite a few posts from people with other brands of cameras who are experiencing the same or similar problems capturing HD. Google searches also tie most of the problems back to Studio.

I'm still digging around for the original thread that talks about this. From what I recall it has also something to do with the Firewire chipset not being correctly driven under the x64bit environment. I'll continue to search for the thread. Anyone else?

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
I am a long-time Studio user. I have a SONY HDR-HC3 HD camcorder that works PERFECTLY with Studio 12.1 on computers running Vista Home Premium 32 and Windows 7 RC 64. I have EXACTLY the same problem as you do Gunnar ... Everything works except I cannot capture video from the camera "cannot open [filename].m2v I spent about 1/2 hour on the chat-line with a Pinnacle rep who eventually referred me to a url telling how to do an advanced uninstall / re-install, plus a good house cleaning of the registry and 'Pixie'. THAT would be a total waste of my time. HP service techs have no advice Sony reps have no advice
I think the issue here, since NONE of my four possible capture/editor programs works on the 64 bit Vista machine, is that MICROSOFT has "improved" something and Pinnacle/AVID, Sony and HP STILL don't know what the problem is. I am NOT about to spend $99 with Microsoft so they can tell me there is no issue, and I should contact Pinnacle and Sony and HP. So ... we are out of luck for now?!?

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
Marc - one more item: I have four different capture editor programs, and a fifth if I install my old Sony editor. NONE of the four capture/editor programs work on Vista Ultimate 64, and they all produce the same error -- "cannot open [filename].m2v While I wish Pinnacle would figure this out, I *DO* believe our 'friends' at MS has broken something.

I couldn't agree with your theory more. We've been trying to find the solution to this problem since Vista became a 64bit became a retail version. Some also have reported the same issue with XP in SP3. Unfortunately I have nothing new to help us with this issue at this time.

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
All -- Users have reported a work-around that appears to enable us to capture HD video using 64 bit Vista. (1) Have Studio running and the EDIT tab active. (2) With the camera connected and recognized (firewire) press PLAY on the camera (2.1) video WILL appear in the preview window of Stuido in the proper aspect ratio (3) Click on the CAPTURE tab of Studio, then click on START CAPTURE. (3.1) This causes you to lose about 5 seconds of the beginning of the video, so shoot some junk prior to starting the real content. Now that I can capture video ... Can you tell me why my new Core 2 Quad 64 Bit, 6 GB RAM, 1 GB graphics RAM renders HD video a ONE FRAME PER SECOND? That is the same speed as my old PC that had less than half the power of this new one. AND!!! By comparison, if I use Windows Movie Maker to render the [filename].m2v file into a HD .WMV it takes less than an hour, whereas Studio 12.1 takes TWENTY TWO hours to render the same .M2V file? SOMETHING is not set right.

Perhaps we should close one of these threads since they are now linked. Thanks for pointing that out Seis.

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
Gunnar:
Capture problems.
I can not Capture/import videofiles from my camcorder. Camcorder Canon XH A1 The camcorder is set up to record HV Video in format 1920 x 1080, 50i I import trough FW 1394
When I want to capture, the camcorder starts normally, but I cant see anything beeing imported.
When I go to EDIT I am getting this error message:
The video file C/user/gunnar/horpestad/videos/testing 2008.m2v could not be opened.
When I open the settings for the Capture, I can not change anything in the CAPTURE FORMAT, Presets. The only thing I can see is MPEG-1/2 and HDV 2. I can not change these settings.
Studio detect my camcorder. No problem.
I run Windows Vista 64 bit on my computer. All drivers are up to date. Ram, graphic-card etc is fare over required to run studio.
I have used this week-end to do a lot of tests, but the result is the same. I can ot capture HD. All other format is working ok (SD 16:9 and 4:3)(50i or 25F). No problem at all.
The problem I am having must be very well known problem for Pinnale. I you take a look at Pinnacle Forum, you will see that this is a problem many many people have. As fare as I can see it, I do not think that anyone can import HD video from a camcorder that are using HD dv-tapes. Is that so or... ???
The ting is. If you read the spesifications for Studio it says:
Quote Capture Options o Capture from DV, HDV and Digital8 camcorders or VCRs (requires a FireWire® port) Quote end.
There must be a solution to this problem.
Thanks for answers

Re: Canon XHA1 Capture HD problem Studio 12.1 Ultimate
All,
I have a Canon XH-A1, Studio 12 and an MSI GX-730 laptop that had Vista Home 32bit installed. I could capture and edit HD footage with no probelm. I just upgraded to Win7 64bit. Guess what? I am now experiencing the exact same problem as everyone above. Hence the fact I'm searching for answers. Seems to me that 64 bit is the problem somehow.
Fortunatly I now know I'm not alone, and that it's not my cameras or lappy going bonkers. I can also use my old standby desktop that still has WinXP and Studio 12 (which I did last night flawlessly).
Unfortunatly, it looks as if there isn't any real good solution. Yet.
I love Studio, but will begin searching other options.

Did you check if there's a 64 Bit driver for the Canon XH-A1
