    TVJohn:

Newegg has BD blanks for less than $4 (Vinpower 10 pack ) They have worked well so far. The LG 6x burner is selling for $169.

Newegg now has a 25 disc pack of the Vinguard BD discs for $3.40 a piece.  I can't remember for sure but I think my first blank DVD's back in the day were around this price.  My first burner was a sony which happened to be the worlds first +R/-R burner and it was $300.00.

I have always had major issues with the BD format but I'm really starting to get excited here guys.  It's almost getting to the point where even if it doesn't take off main stream I may just want it for my own personal needs.  There is just something about being able to backup entire projects to one single disc no matter if it is DV or HD that seems pretty nice to me.  That and the fact that a $3.40 disc is cheaper then two mini DV tapes is pretty nice as well.

Thanks for the input, chaps, and I'm pleased to have sparked such an interesting debate.

I, too, think that BluRay is getting to the stage of being useful to small-volume producers (I reckon on 10 - 100 copies of my railway productions on DVD). Prices are a little higher this side of the pond, but computer BR drives are around £150 - 180, I saw TraxData (I think) write-once single-sided discs for about £2.50 each recently, and a HiFi mag had a review of BD players this month for £200 - £400. (They picked a Samsung at £200 and a Sony at £240 as best value.) At that price, I think it will begin to take off, though I don't think BR will ever reach as many homes as DVD.

Great find! Looks like TMPGEnc Authoring works will save me time and money, since I was planning to spend the $$ on DVDit Pro. Big Smile

If going to fuse for Blu-ray with a HDV 1440 X 1080 timeline, would it make any difference changing the timeline properties to 1920 x 1080 and letting it render, or is it a waste of time?

Just a waste of time, your bd player will be able to show your rectangular pixels when playing the disc.

Here is a way of getting BluRay onto a DVD I use it for small family projects and view on my PS3
