Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working
I also tried two other programs I had to uninstall it and they wouldn't work either.
What were they?
CCleaner and Advance System Care.
Hollywood FX for Studio (Probably not there, since that's what you couldn't Install, in the 1st place) / Shared Files / Studio 10 / Studio 12 (Shouldn't be there, if you've successfully Uninstalled it) Folders & Files. But NOT Studio Ultimate Plugins.
When you've done that, go Back to ADD/REM PROGS, check to see if S10 is still showing. If it is, hopefully it's an erroneous entry. Clicking on Remove, should Remove the entry.
Hollywood FX for Studio is still there, complete as far as I can tell. Studio 10 / Studio 12 folders are there and plugins in both including Ultimate Plugins. There's a load of stuff in S10\Programs but not Studio.exe.
What have you now got showing in ADD/REM PROGS?
S10
This seems a bit of a mess and as I took an image a two weeks ago which include the first install of Studio 10 only I'm thinking to go back to this would be the best way forward, do you agree?
Kind regards and thanks

Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working
This seems a bit of a mess and as I took an image a two weeks ago which include the first install of Studio 10 only I'm thinking to go back to this would be the best way forward, do you agree? Yes.(That would be a good platform, to start from) & then Post a ScreenShot (Like mine, in this Thread), of what you have showing for HFX Transitions. (I'll add a "How-To", in this Post).
BTW - Did you do your (Last?) Disk Image, before or after you Reinstalled Windows. You don't want to inherit any problems that may have prevented you from Installing SmartSound in S12, but apparently fixed, after Reinstalling Windows. And does that Image have XPSP2 or 3?
ADDED.
HOW TO INCLUDE A SCREENSHOT IN YOUR POST:
SCREENSHOT
1) Press "Print Screen" Key on your Keyboard.
2) Go to: Start / All Programmes / Accessories / Paint
3) In Paint Window, click on Edit / Paste. Your ScreenShot will appear in Paint Window.
4) Click on File / Save As...
5) Save In Desktop / File Name: ScreenShot / Save as type JPEG
INCLUDE IN POST
1) Click Reply
2) Enter your Text first
3) Click Options Tab
4) Click File attachment / Add/Update
5) Browse: Desktop
6) Select ScreenShot.jpg
7) Click: Open
8) Click: Save
9) Click: Post

Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working
Hi Colour,
Thanks for your last post I've learnt a lot from you over the last week or so, you have been very patient with me and I'm very grateful.
Now for the good news. I did tell you that I could restore my system drive to a point where Studio 10 had just been installed. Well I had done several images since the reformat, and found one that I;d created immediately before S10 or S 12 had been installed. I figured this would be a better starting point for the re installation of S 10 and S 12. Everything seems to be ok far, i have a few music programs to install and some other bits and bobs due to the roll back but tose can be done anytime as time permits.
At this stage both SP 3 and IE 8 had been installed.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks again

Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working
found one that I;d created immediately before S10 or S 12 had been installed.
INSTALL S10
1) Insert Prog Cd 1 & do a "Custom", rather than "Typical" Install, choosimg not to Install Instant DVD & MediaManager/Server.
2) Insert Prog Cd 2, when requested to do-so.
You need to watch the Installer progress bar very closely, since & as I recall, HFX for Studio is the 1st to Install on Cd 2 (But I may be wrong) & didn't Install correctly the last time.
3) You can either continue to insert "Bonus" Content DVD, when requested to do-so, or choose not-to, since Content DVD has it's own Installer. I would choose not-to & after re-starting PC, check that HFX for Studio & HFX Vols 1 & 2 (Greyed-out) are now showing in Transitions Menue. If yes:
4) Enter your HFX Plus/PRO Serial Number, via All Programs (As per my previous Post). I think maybe this is where you went wrong last time, checking that HFX Vol 1 is now unlocked. If yes:
5) Re-start PC & Insert Content DVD.
6) Re-start PC & Update to Content DVD Rev 2 (As per my previous Post).
7) Outside of Studio, Update to S10.7. Download HERE
8) Check to see if your HDD needs De-fragmenting.
NB - You need to Check that everything is showing correctly in All Programs, My Computer C:\Program Files & ADD/REM PROGS, which will probably show approx 3,500 Mbs, for both Studio 10 Prog & same again for Content DVD. This is a Studio Bug & in fact S10 Prog only takes-up approx 1,500 Mbs on your HDD.
When Downloading Updates, it's best to Save to your HDD & Run from there. Then you can keep the Update .exe File, for future use, if needed.
I hope S10 & S10.7 Update Install ok, with XPSP3 & IE8 already Installed. They should do, since they Installed ok last time.
BTW - If above Installs ok, make a Backup, in-case S12 goes "Pear-shaped"again.
Post-back.

Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working
Hi Colour,
Thanks very much for the install details which I followed, and everything went to plan. As you say approx 3,500 Mbs, for both Studio 10 Prog & same again for Content DVD are showing in the 'add remove programs' list.
Smartsound, voice over and HFX all seem to be functioning as they should. Vols 1 & 2 are still (Greyed-out) I can't remember about those, but I seem to have all the transitions I had before.
I checked the drive and it doesn't need defragmenting but I might do it anyway before installing S12.
I'm just about to make a backup image of my C drive, which reminds me, I owe Don (Cuartetto) another big vote of thanks for his wake up call to me, to make such backups
Look forward to hearing from you, and thanks again, you're a swell Guy, Pinnacle should put you on their payroll as a troubleshooter.
PS I'm thinking of installing the AV driver for Studio Deluxe v1. I'm told that it won;t work with S12 but as I have S10 installed would it be advisable to install it now for S10 use or do you think this would complicate the S12 install?

Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working
everything went to plan. As you say approx 3,500 Mbs, for both Studio 10 Prog & same again for Content DVD are showing in the 'add remove programs' list.
I assume you now have S10.7 Installed?
S10.7 Update should have fixed the erroneous 3.500Mb entry for the Program & identified it correctly as approx 1500Mb, in ADD/REM PROGS. But possibly not for everyone.
Go to: S10 Edit Tab / Help / About Pinnacle Studio Plus.... / Check that you have Version 10.7.......Showing. Smartsound,
SmartSound "QuickTracks" are included in S10. SmartSound Libraries are not. If you have any additional purchased SmartSounds, install them into S10.7, before you Install S12 & Run S12 Transfer Wizard. HFX all seem to be functioning as they should. Vols 1 & 2 are still (Greyed-out) I can't remember about those, but I seem to have all the transitions I had before.
I assume that you now have HFX For Studio & HFX Vol 1 Transitions (Available in Bold Type, after entering your Plus/PRO Serial Number). HFX Vol 2 will remain in Feint Type . Vols 1 & 2 Headings remain in Feint Type.
If all of the above is correct:
S12 ULTIMATE DISK UPGRADE INSTALLATION:
1) Insert S12 Prog DVD. (DON'T Install Instant DVD Recorder & SureThing Labler (Whatever that is. You can always Install it at a later date if you want it)).
2) I suggest you don't insert the Plugins CD, when requested to do-so. They have their own Installers & can be Installed, after you've (hopefully) successfully Transferred S10.7 Content & have SmartSounds available, in S12.
3) Restart your PC & Run S12 Transfer Wizard. Instructions HERE (1st method applies to you, since you already have S10 Installed). DON'T Uninstall S10.7 afterwards (As suggested by Pinnacle).
4) Restart PC & check you now have everything available in S12 & S10,7. You can double-check Transferred Content, by going to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Pinnacle\Content. That's the File Path here, anyway.
If all of the above ok:
5) Exit S12 Prog & Insert Plugins CD & Install those.
6) DON'T Ipdate to S12.1 Patch.
I'm just about to make a backup image of my C drive, which reminds me, I owe Don (Cuartetto) another big vote of thanks for his wake up call to me, to make such backups
Kudos to Don for that That might turn-out to be a "Life-saver". Pinnacle should put you on their payroll as a troubleshooter.
They might be asking for their moneyback
PS I'm thinking of installing the AV driver for Studio Deluxe v1. I'm told that it won;t work with S12 but as I have S10 installed would it be advisable to install it now for S10 use or do you think this would complicate the S12 install?
Treat that as a separate issue & start a new Thread, after you've got everything working in S12 & S10.7. Jeff (jjn) is the Expert re: that. I don't use Pinnacle Hardware.
Post-back
Good luck

Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working
Hi Colour,
Thank you so much for your accurate and concise instructions throughout this long and frustrating period of trying to install and integrate Studio 10 and 12. I'm very very very happy to tell you that both programmes are now installed, with Smartsounds, HFX and Voiceover all there and working fine, together with all the other features.
I've taken another backup, so I should be well covered for the future.
This short message seems totally inadequate to express my appreciation for all the time you and others who have assisted me with with this vexing problem.
Thanks once again.
With kind regards

Re: Studio 10 and Studio 12U HFX not working

ADDED - And here's a tip that many use, to prevent another major disaster, if you don't use it already:
Instead of "Saving" each Edit in a Project, "Save As", instead. Same Project Name, but with sequential numbers. Eg: Wedding 1.stx, Wedding 2.stx, Wedding 3.stx etc. That way, if you can't Open your last Project (Edit), you can (Hopefully), Open the previous one, without having to re-do your whole Project.
Better-still - Render each Edit to File DV-AVI. Same File Name, but with sequential numbers. Eg: Wedding 1.avi, Wedding 2.avi, Wedding 3.avi etc. & put those onto the TimeLine, for a final Render. That way, you don't lose anything.
And - Have a look at THIS Post. It's worth doing that once-in-a-while.
BTW - It pays dividends to take time-out, to read the "Stickied" Threads & as many others you have time for. A good way to learn Studio, reading of other's problems & fixes, IMO.
In the end, your perseverience has paid-off.
Good luck

Thanks Colour for these tips. I do do regular saves by adding numbers, all though not quite as regularly as that. I also save each chapter as an AVI, then piece them together later.
The other post you linked to was also very interesting.
