JKoch:Very likely, Studio 13 will be a very simple $80 base interface, which can be upgraded to an event videographers "pro studio" through a series of upgrades or plug-ins for successive $99 payments. Once one pays about $600, the result will be on par with a Premier or Vegas, but possibly easier on the front-end.
That's what I'm talkin' about... Things like more control over the default file locations, DVD looping (it's a option in presets in Liquid) and a stable menu authoring GUI would be welcome additions/revisions. In a previous life I was an in-the-trenches Systems Analyst/Programmer; testing, piloting and rewriting newly written software for a 52 facility manufacturing division in a Fortune 100 company - so I can dearly relate to the "feature requests" and the users always wanting something else and "just one more tweak" in a product that already had 40% code bloat, was 25% overbudget and 12 weeks late. Believe me, I understand the necessity of keeping the system requirements and the up-front costs down for the "Standard" entry level package, but we already have three levels of Studio 12. Making a third video track available in Studio 13 Ultimate could keep the standard version standard and allow for creativeness in those of us who enjoy Liquid's power, but dislike its complexity for jobs that require something somewhere in between. Like you, I am concerned for the long-term survivability of Studio/Liquid if the stock doesn't bump North soon and stay there....

That won't happen until there are more than two video tracks.
Not just more than 2, but rather unlimited in both video and audio. You can't truly work with DD5.1 sound without breaking down to mono tracks for example. That requires an absolute minimum of 4 tracks (front/rear tracks paired in stereo... not ideal but can work). and xdcam support, and Cineform support, and mfx file support, and red one support, and multiple/external monitor support, and a fully scalable windows based gui, and script support, and aja/black-magic/matrox support, and... and... and... Not saying that it can't be done, but it's a long road and there are some things mentioned that are simply impossible without altering the gui in some fashion

PCLEUSB2_fan:Where is Marc P.?
I guess he's doing his job dealing with current issues and leaving it to the rest of us to fantasise about the future - as he should. Keep up the good work, Marc.

For a modest $79, Studio 13 will offer Studio 12 users the opportunity to deactivate all their Studio 12 software and plug-ins, and thereby receive an offer to buy them all over again, at $99 apiece, in a form that will be compatible with Studio 13. End result: Studio 12.1 plus a workspace with a different "skin." Some new 4-D plug-ins may appear and be quite handy for owners of PCs with an 8 core CPU and an NVIDIA 15,000 GPU, essential for 1920x1080 60p video with DD 7.1. Ah, yes.
Somehow, I don't think you can have an NLE with features on par with an AMC or Edius without it becoming as expensive, difficult, or hardware-demanding. Neither Bart nor Homer have the inclination, time, or money. Homer is already maxed-out on the CC and worried about his money machine. Marge also has a long "to do" list to keep them busy at other stuff, day or night.
Conclusion: the basic product will be very simple; the add-ons will be challenging and pricey. For a reasonable fee, I'd settle for a S12.2 that could import 1280x720 60p avchd/h.264, fix the stabilizer, truly support DD 5.1, and (for a bit more) offer a plug-in for a music composer / editor. Otherwise, if it means starting from scratch with a difficult, under-tested tool, one might as well migrate to the world of Vegas, Premier, PD8, or FCP.

Getting back to Studio itself, something has just occured to me. Windows 7 is supposed to be released on October 22nd. Pinnacle Studio Windows 7 Edition to be announced the next week? S12 with a few more feature requests implemented (same number of tracks) , more montage themes and RTFX Vol 2 included. Maybe even Windows 7 certification. (also compatible with Vista and XP)
Just in time for the "holiday" season.....

I used to be posted to RAF Chicksands near Shefford, Beds
My Brother & I got chucked- out of there by the US Military, a few years-ago.
We were driving along & wondered what the heck appeared to be an enormous gasometer construction, but without the gas container. At first we thought it was a rig for testing aircraft. So we went to investigate.
Driving-along a disused runway, quite happily, when a military vehicle screeched to a halt & 2 machine guns were thrust into the open car windows.
Apparently we'd stumbled into what is now a top secret Anglo/American listening post.

Hmm. Chicksands didn't have a runway of any sort when I was there. But I left 46 years ago. No comment on what you may have observed.
Chicksands did, however, have what was reputed to be a haunted priory. The story was that a young noviciate nun "got into trouble" with one of the priests and was sealed live into an alcove of the priory with bricks and mortar. Her ghost was said to walk the grounds on the third evening of every month, if memory serves.
There were two RAF bases nearby...both with runways: RAF Cardington, at which Spitfires were based during WWII, and RAF Henlow, which I seem to recall was a bomber base.

In 1962, a huge FLR-9 Wullenweber antenna array was constructed at Chicksands to form part of the Iron Horse HF direction finding network. This Elephant Cage array was dismantled in 1996 when the USAF withdrew from the site, handing it back to the British Armed Forces.

I can't believe that until now, there's no news whatsoever.
That, I guess, will be at Launch Presentation date & subsequent Press Release & not before.

IIRC, there was a little leak of information prior to S12 release.
Maybe the messenger has been shot.
PS: Anybody seen THIS ?

Jack Bellford:You can't truly work with DD5.1 sound without breaking down to mono tracks for example. That requires an absolute minimum of 4 tracks (front/rear tracks paired in stereo... not ideal but can work).
Most who plea for DD 5.1 simply want Studio to import the native 5 channels their camcorders capture, without compressing it to 2 channels. Little 5-channel editing would be relevant. The actual amount of channel separation is rather low, since the mics are close and usually face upwards, but it might help preserve at least a bit of 3-D effect.
One can already fabricate some DD 5.1 within Studio by doodling with the balance and fade features of the native, overlay, sound, or effects audio tracks. It may not be discrete control over five separate tracks, but the net effect can be nearly the same. You'd seldom need to break up each track of each video or audio component (5x4?), which could get rather complicated. After a few clever sound effect tricks, audiences might start to yawn.
Nonetheless, while multi-track audio editing probably would not require oodles of PC power, three or four video tracks certainly would, especially for AVCHD. I bet more than a sow's ear that PD7, PE7, or Vegas 9 would all crash if someone tried to work with three or more native AVCHD tracks on anything less than a monster PC. Two are challenge enough, and the 16x9 aspect ratio is not particularly friendly to any more than one motion overlay. Cameo-ed or soft bordered stills can work better, and (between the title and overlay tracks) S12 can support two. Then there is montage, as a pretty good proxy.
Real multi-track sound might be great under controled studio situations. In usual practice, however, most sound is either very frontal (loud speakers), banged up and distorted by echoes, constrained by the absence of a close-up mic, infused with noisy ambient racket, or utterly overwhelmed by wind.

You made a reference of the more expensive studio being on the level of PP and Vegas. In order to do this you would need unlimited audio and video tracks (among LOTS of other things).

Well, technically this isn't really true. Studio can not produce Dolby Digital 5.1. (you need a LFE track for that which studio can't produce). With studio you can produce a limited 5 channel surround sound ability. For that matter, Avid Liquid couldn't even really produce true DD5.1 But the whole point here is that if you want to start comparing a more expensive studio (or even a next-gen) to PP or Vegas..... you've got a LOOOOOONG way to go.
