Wow.  I just bought and installed the full Studio v12 as an non-upgrade "upgrade" to v10, and I have to say that the SmartSound "replacement" is simply no replacement. It's awful.  The music selection is atrocious.  Fortunately, I can still generate SmartSound tracks through Ulead's Media Studio Pro, which I also use, but I can tell right now that this gimped Pinnacle version pales by comparison.

Bring back SmartSound!

I feel the same way. Bought plus version of V12 and was unable to transfer smart sound from my V10. Unfortunately I uninstalled V10 so SS is now gone. I agree that the  new version stinks, Smart Sound was so much better. Is there a stand alone version of SS ?

There is also a standalone version available from Smartsounds.

Hi all,  After  much cussing and swearing at my computer and getting nowhere, I emailed SmartSound tech support about this issue and was given a link that would install an updated SmartSound music generator.  I would have posted the link in here on the off chance that someone else might like to use it.. (smell sarcasm?) Unfotunately the link is passcoded and the email stated that the password expired about an hour after I got the email.  ANYWAY.... I installed the program and all is well with the world (for now) I can use my SmartSound music.  So email SmartSound support and get this music generator. (at least I think thats what they called it). http://www.smartsound.com/support/supportform.html

Given how few people are probably running S8 now, you'll probably have to try the installer yourself

Well the 12.1.3 release patch has be posted. I don't really have time to test it tonight, but if the Quicktracks plug-in still works, then that is a very good sign.

Excellent news, the battle it seems has been won, however the war is not over. We need to continue to impress upon both companies that Smartsound is an integral and essential component of Pinnacle Studio. Whenever the Smartsound functionality is removed both companies will lose business as customers begin the inevitable migration to products that can support the large and expensive library of music many users own.

For now the news is good, personally I can now give the go ahead to buy the 5 licences we need here at Timeless Moments. I would urge others who are thinking about upgrading from 11 but have held off because of the Smartsound issue to now go ahead and do so. It is equally important to reward companies that listen to their customers.

I believe it is now the time for a statement from Avid regarding the future support for Smartsound having made a massive U-turn on their original decision.

it might be more pragmatic to say "Having shown that they do listen to user feedback" 

I'd speculate that Pinnacle development will now move to S13/NextGen, (i.e. no more planned patches for 12), so the next "battle" is likely to be eight months away at least.

SS works in this version. It is the next version that I am worried about. That along with whether it will work in Liquid's "NextGen" replacement. I still have Sonic Fire Pro 5 to use. And, it is a totally AWESOME program. So, if SS goes "bye bye", I will still be able to use their products in my video, albeit, outside of the NLE.

And yes, thanks Ian for getting this ball rolling along with Declic Video for there continued support in this along with having a great website with lots of Studio help/hints/tips/free transitions, etc.

I also have Sonic Fire Pro 5 and have now discovered it can't handle *.m2v files (as in HDV).

HD  mpg and mov files are able to import on my sys, I might have more codecs installed than you but try with those filetypes and tell what happens.

I had S12 make several files to test with SF Pro 5.

All files except for the .rm Real Media file played ok on test system.

Results:
1. MOV full screen DV: SFP5 crashes to desktop.
2. MPEG-4 HD: SFP5 crashes to desktop.
3. Real Media large: SFP5 crashes to desktop.
4. MPEG-2 HDV2 1080i: imports fine in SFP5.
5. WMV HDV 1080/50i 1440x1080:  imports fine in SFP5.
6. HD DivX AVI 16:9: imports fine in SFP5.

Thanks guys but I think I just happened to get the email from Smartsound first living in the UK.

Today we have ordered the first Studio 12 Ultimate from Amazon, price £60, looking forward to seeing how well it works.

May I also respectfully add that whilst the discussion on SFP5 is of great interest is it possible it could be moved to a different thread, don't think we should dilute the core message of this thread on digressionary subjects.
