So called "patch" 10.8 is a Windows MCE killer!

    Machine:
DELL Inspiron E1505, Core Duo 1.83, Windows XP SP2 Media Center Edition 2005
    Studio 10 Titanium.

    Problem:
During the upurading from the v. 10.6 to v. 10.8 the system crash will occur: THIS PATCH REWRITES THE SYSTEM FILES. Windows ask for the Installation disk for the correcting errors.
Media Center(from Microsoft) doesn't start after this "patch"!!!

Unfortunately, i have not an any "Windows installation disks", because the system comes to me with MCE preinstalled on the HD! Sad
Moreover, the only CDs is required but not any HD path!

I have a big troubles after 10.7 patch, because the IE7. Now, the problem is more HARD in 10.8 patch?
Thanks for the Windows restore point, its keep me a smile. What's happened? What must do i ?

Recently I learned that Dell doesn't ship installation disks automatically with new computers. However, if you call their tech support, they will send them to you free of charge. I have done this on two occasions.

Might I also suggest that for the future, you should purchase either Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image software. These allow you to make an image of your drive, which if you do before making a change, you can return everything back to it's previous state in an hour or so. I rely heavily on Ghost. Others like Acronis better, and I think it's less expensive. You should have a second hard drive, either internal or external to save your backup images.

If you have XP, you don't need S10.8, which is primarily for Vista & has caused problems with XP (As you've found-out).

    Try this:

    1. If you still have IE7, Remove it from Windows Updates in  ADD/REM PROGS & you'll automatically "Roll-Back" to IE6.

    2. Insert S10.6 ? Prog Disk 1 & choose "Repair" Install. Insert Prog Disk 2, when requested to do so & leave "Bonus" Content DVD.

    3. Update to S10.7

Unfortunately, i have not an any "Windows installation disks", because the system comes to me with MCE preinstalled on the HD! Sad

You might have a System Recovery Partition on your C Drive. Go To: Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Disk Management

If yes, you may have a Sysytem Recovery Prog. Check Start / All Programmes. If yes, you may have the option of copying Recovery Prog to DVD.

    Anyone-else?

    Thank you Friends!

I have made the system disk image by the Norton Ghost 2003 Utility already.
I can transfer image to any HD if i wish. ;)
Unfortunately, the installation partition was destroyed by me and "my experiments" :)

Does the 10.8 patch is really unrelevant for XP? Confused
Can i "coexists" with the 10.7 and be happy in the future?

P.S. I don't need the "VISTA-balalaika" OS its a really UGLY! Big Smile

Pinnacle themselves say "The 10.8 patch is targeting Windows Vista but also includes support for Windows XP"

The only problem I've seen in XP is if you have WMP11 installed, then you may  find some of the make file presets broken in 10.7 - particularly PAL.

Can i "coexists" with the 10.7 and be happy in the future?

Most of the us here are satisfied in using Studio 10.7 in XP OS Yes

Re: So called "patch" 10.8 is a Windows MCE killer!

Dell has an "image restore" that comes on a separate hidden partition. A call for tech support will get your image restored back to day one. 10.8 is for Windows vista compatibility with the 10.7 update. If you have XP, it is best to stay in 10.7 and there will be no need to go to 10.8.

    Whoops. my bad. Embarrassed

I had a dell before and it too clunked out of place when I did a dual boot. It had to wipe every single partition clean to make a new one for ghosting.
