studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
Last week bought and just installed studio 14 ultimate collection.
I have serious problems with the Moving Titles editor: - editor forces Vista to BASIC mode (Avid support claims it's normal . I think it is unacceptable for a 2009 application) - I can't see any typed text (whatever font/color/size/style)...... as if text is set to full transparent... - Moving Title editor "hangs" (with new project or even with demo project) - I have to force the studio application to close under running applications.
Running on vista 64 bit home premium, Intel Q6600, 4GB ram, ati radeon 4850, 1650x1080, 32 bit colors
Any suggestions ? Anyone else having similar problems ?
Thanks Stefan
P.S. Problem is open with Avid support

Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
Did some more testing and found a Solution.
All the following S14 video options MUST be turned on:
- Enable high resolution preview
- hardware acceleration
- background rendering
Please note that now Moving Title editor NO LONGER SWITCHES to Vista BASIC mode.

When you mention Vista Basic are you referring to the Vista Basic Classic theme (Non-Aero)?

What release of ATI Catalyst drivers are you using ?
I have the latest 9.9 version. Maybe updating can help.

Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
I am having the same problem with the Motion Titler. I changed the enabled the "high resolution preview" in the Setup Video preview preferences. After that it worked, but after trying different ways it started locking up again.
My next step is to uninstall/reinstall 14 AGAIN (4th time) and set the "high resolution preview" then test it. The other settings, hardware acceleration and background rendering were already enabled.
There is clearly a problem with the motion titler and it will probably need a patch, this problem is not resolved, yet.
Vista Business 32 Bit, Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2Gb RAM, Graphics Card Radeon HD 4670 1 GM DDR3 RAM

P.S. I have a case open with Avid support too.

Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
I saw this behavior (switching to the basic theme) early on on vista's life. For me, it was because I was running an older Sun Java Runtime Environment (JRE). When certain web pages would kick off a java applet, then I'd get switched to basic.
I wouldn't suspect this is related to your issue at all, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Betreft: Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
Hello,
The same problems on a XP system. The system is working with SP3 and ATI Radeon X1950GT. The text is Full Transparent when hardware acceleration is on, when it is off you can read the text in the preview window. When closing the title editor Studio "hangs", preview window of the time line is turning black and I have to force studio to close.
It's not a windows problem, problems with Xp and Vista so I think its a problems with ATI cards and the CCC.
It's a major problem (bug), working now with 12 again.
Avid help !

Re: Betreft: Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
Just did the install of S14 Ultimate Collections, and I have to say, so far so good. Oh, I am "still" running XP Pro with all the updates. Not one issue yet.... transferred all my stuff from S12U without a hitch, except of course, Smartsound, and I am having a little problem with some NewBlue stuff.

The problem is solved, I changed the grafic card into a model from Nvidia (Nvidia, 9500GT, 1GB memory). Moving title editor is working, different layers is now possible. And its now rendering on the timeline. So the problems likes to be some ATI cards and the drivers for it.

Using ATI HD4890 1gig ram with Cat 9.7 and was able to use Motion Titler from drop down menu, edit in Titler with no problem.

I see, I'm not the only one with this issue! Thought I was by myself when now one responded to my previous post... http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/350168.aspx Here's my set up: Processor: 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 965 Motherboard: Gigabyte Core i7 Motherboard Memory: 12GB DDR3-1333 Triple Channel (6 x 2GB)
Graphics: Dual DVI ATI HD4350 1GB I contacted AVI/Pinnacle vie email and they told me to disable all the items you mentioned as needing to be enabled: - Enable high resolution preview
- hardware acceleration
- background rendering But still nothing doing. I told them it didn't work and they told me to do a repair from the disc, which I haven't had a chance to do yet. But the fact that it's not all these folks tells me that Pinnacle needs to fix it and have an update/hotfix for us to download. And the sooner the better. the motion titler is the reason I got the software!

That's not problem solved, that's a customer work around. We shouldn't have to change our video cards b/c the software doesn't work when it was sold to us as working with our cards. Pinnacle/Avid - Fix This!

Hi xpesrx,
unfortunately it seems Avid support (at least those I was in contact with) is not exactly "skilled"... in first reply a lady asked me to turn off 64 bit color depth (what's this ??!)...
Anyway, after the comments in these forums, it seem quite clear that the problem is specifically related to ATI Cards.
What OS are you using ? What version of ATI catalyst drivers are you using ?
What's your screen resolution and color depth ?
I solved activating all mentioned options, under vista home premium 64 bit, with ATI catalyst 9.9 (full package download from AMD site, default settings, screen: 1680x1050, colors: maximum-32bit).
Currently there's a 9.10 catalyst version available, haven't tried (as now Studio is working fine I have no intention of trying new things without need .. risking some bad surprise)

Re: Re Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
I have had various BSOD's (I give a little detail about 5 posts down in the following thread http://forums.pinnaclesys.com/forums/thread/349578.aspx ) running on Nvidia 9800gtx+ cards (there are two identical cards in my system but only one is utilized by S14). Turning OFF hardware acceleration seems to have stopped the BSOD's from occuring for the time being.
It appears that there are problems with both Nvidia and ATI just perhaps different problems.

Re: Re Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
Yea.... Titler Crashes here as well. GeForce 8800 card here running dual monitors. It's all high end and no need to boast how great my system is. Bottom line, we all have similar issues. CRASHES Speed doesn't seem to be an issue here. When it works, it works good. While doing several edits to my Titler project, my timeline bar doubles at the left top of my screen and all goes to hell from there. I have to do frequent saves to keep from loosing my titler project. I really thought that after buying every single version from back in the day all the way to today, things would operate differently with Pinnacle. Honestly, I own every single version...I can't remember how many challenges I had with each one version. It took hell to get a stable version. I want to say version 9 was the most stable. Maybe its the same programmers...maybe its the same company heads....It almost seems that these programs are releasing the software without beta testing, without quality control...all for the bottom line. Get people to buy it now and we'll figure out the rest as we go. I don't remember AVID's top end software behaving like this.... I really thought this version was going to be different. Don't get me wrong. The program ideas, the application is excellent. They just need to get a hold of their mode of operandi and get it right the first time around. I was also disapointed with not having SmartSound in this version. Why would you expect SmartSound to work around your code? It should be, you work with their code to make it work in your program. Again- this is probably coming from their top heads. They really need to get it together and truly listen to their public's wants, utilize smart and feasible ideas to output a great product. Now, I'll just sit here and wait for a patch that is or isn't getting worked on; because honestly, they don't always publicize what they're doing. They really should have a single page explaining what their known issues are and what they are working on to improve. Communication is key.

Re: Re Re: studio 14 - Moving title editor: major problems
I truly think that S14 might be Pinnacles Vista. Why do I revert back to my XP maching that has 11 Ultimate on it for doing simple projects? It loads faster. It looks better. Maybe it's because I have finally have gotten so used to XP. Plus most of my programs run on XP that I have passed the learning curve on. I still use Photoshop version 5.5. Anybody remember the Fast system that ran on Windows 3.1 Workgroup . I swear that Pinnacle came from that. They just look to much the same. Buddy

Ah! Windows 3.1. That's when Microsoft said their subsequent Windows would load and run faster. Instead they took longer to boot and were more resource hungry to do the same thing ....... just like Pinnacle S14.

Has anyone noticed that the two most views came from issues with S14 and Windows 7 on page one of the forum. Pinhead got a lot of responses also. Buddy Oh by the way never but never let anyone have a remote assistance on your computer.
