Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

    Hi,

We are sorry, but we had to disable the old forum as Google was reporting a malware. The site will be cleaned and then we will see if we can restore it.

What kind of help are you looking for your DV500Plus?

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

As I mentioned in my previous email, the old forum was attacked with malware, as reported by Google. SO we don't want to take any risks for users who could visit this forum.

Any movement on this?  Not having access to the old board is definitely making support for older versions of Studio somewhat challenging.

Sorry, but I didn't get any news about the old forum. Probably not a top priority....

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

    Obviously, and for good reason.

Still, let's agree that it isn't in anyone's best interest to simply throw away years of accumulated information...is it?

    I'll agree. Yes

I've got quite a collection of saved favorites stored in Explorer for the old forum. I've managed to keep them intact for quite a long time now. At some point I will need to delete them if they continue to be redirected to the front of the new forum. It's going to be a sad day when I have to let them go. Sad

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

If we can get the old forum back for a while, we could always download and archive the "good 'uns".

    Coasters,coasters, and more coasters?
All you wanted to know about uninstall-reinstall.
    Always re-encode?
    Difference between avi and mpeg.
Green scenes and blue exclamation point.
    Capture DV or Mpeg.

Just a drop in the bucket, I'm sure. Big Smile

Bittmann, did the search function work there the last time you used it? It didn't for me.

Nope...tough to find the threads, but at least they were there.

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

    Guys,

I don't know if we will get the new forum nack or not, that's really not a priority.

So, if you have some interesting URL's to important threads saved to your system, could you send me these URL's and I will try to get an export of these data and import them into the new forum.

At least, it wil help getting back some data.

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

What do we have to do to help those who decide to consider this to be a priority?

I would settle for even a "hidden" link at the current time (e.g. not "webboard.pinnaclesys.com", but perhaps only under "wboard.pinnaclesys.com" or as an IP address).  That way, those of us who have linked to the old webboard could then copy/paste the information into new webboard threads, and update our links (when applicable) to point to the new webboard.

Bottom line -- even if it is inconvenient, please, please, please do not throw away years of accumulated knowledge about your product.

If you had an exhaustive Knowledge Base that actually documented the known issues, then the old webboard would not be necessary.  But to support anyone still trying to run S8 or S9, or even versions of Studio as recent as Studio 10 (and including posts that still seem to pertain to S11 and S12!!!), there is still much information to be found there.

I can understand Pinnacle's desire to stop supporting the old webboard, and to stop supporting the old Pinnacle products that it "represents".   I just don't believe that this is yet the "time" to do so.

Anyhow:  For the first link, how about the link in my signature?  That should get things started.

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

    Bittmann,

I will forward this thread to people who could make this decision.

I don't agree that much with your comment regarding our Knowledge base... Ther are thousands of entries since Studio 1 and I don't know so much other vendors offering such knowledge base. Of course, there are also information (more how to) missing and available in the old forum. But should we still support Studio 1, 7, 8 etc. ? That's a very good question. We are also making very good upgrade offers to benefit of Studio 12 and that's probably the best thing to do to continue getting support.

    Let's see...

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

Your knowledge base is a wonderful tool -- I refer to it all the time.   However, it IS incomplete, and some well-known issues are either not documented at all, or are mis-documented e.g. making claims that are not correct.   That being said:  This is not a thread to discuss such matters.

And I do agree that there is much more in the old forum (e.g. information and how-tos) that is even more valuable.  So let us simply hope that your forwarding of this thread does help boost the priority of restoring the old webboard.   Yes

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

I'd support loading the old system up somewhere.

A year or two back I posted some instructions on how to make a batch file that loaded SQL Server when needed, not every time my PC started up.  It made start-ups much quicker.

My old hard disk finally became unusable after I used a registry cleanup program, so I rebuilt it and forgot to copy the batch file before I overwrote the disk.

I had posted the instructions on the old forum so I searched for my old posting but obviously can't find it.  Now I'll have to research it all again.

I'd support access to the old information.

Re: Wheres the old webboard forums?

Here's another thread that I *think* I remember discussing how to properly reinstall the drivers for the old USB 1.1 capture devices (MovieBox USB, DVC150, etc.).  Something in Windows would latch on to the wrong driver, and until you did a specific set of "Mother may I" steps in a specific order, Studio wouldn't be able to capture with the capture device.  This seems to still pertain to capture in S12 for users with older hardware.

The old links used to open the front page of the new forum, now they just don't do ANYTHING. Sad

    Towbar,

That's a good catch. I don't know what was done on our servers. I escalated this issue to our IT.

    Thanks for mentioning it.

Well heres hoping it'll be put back up. I have a few tips that might help others. I was having difficulty with the DV500plus working. It started to get the dreaded yellow exclamation marks in the device manager on either E4 or Overlay but if disabled one, the other would be ok, the card wouldnt capture or play video properly anymore. As I say, I think I found a fix which seemed to work. But as theres no where to put it, Im waiting for the old lot to be reinstated.

The log in window appeared, entered the details. Window returned - several times. The last time, a page opened up only to be told "You are not authorised to view this page"
    Huh!!
