Hmm, is SP3 even out yet? Maybe its blank because the SP hasn't been released yet.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
Hi Here is the FAQ on that SP3, The following instructions will allow Studio 11.0 to properly install on a computer with Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed.
The version of Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Beta that was tested with these instructions was the release candidate version 3264.
Note: These instructions are only for new installations of Studio 11.0. If a system is upgraded to Windows XP SP3 while Studio is installed, Studio will continue to work normally.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
I have reviewed the FAQ that your post referenced but I'm confused about which version of the file I should download. None of the descriptions describe EXACTLY what I have. My Version 11 disc is an upgrade one and it says it will upgrade "All versions of Pinnacle Studio to Pinnacle Studio Plus Version 11". I appreciate that this is very similar wording to the Version 3 file referenced in the FAQ but it is not exactly the same. Do you know which of the 4 versions of the file I should download?
Thanks for any assistance.

Version #3: This version is for users who have an Upgrade disc that will upgrade a PREVIOUS VERSION OF STUDIO to Studio 11.
Version #4: This version is for users who have an Upgrade disc that will upgrade Studio 11 Standard to Studio 11 Plus.
I would think that you should go with #3. Your information of "All versions of Pinnacle Studio" is the same as "Previous Version of Studio" But no need to rush things. On Monday or so, I'm sure the author of this thread will be back around. imho

What's the rush? SP3 hasn't even been released. It's tentatively scheduled for the first half of 2008. That means maybe within the next 5 or 6 months.

Link has been updated. No rush at all, Marcus just wanted us folks to be ready for it.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
Is this information still available anywhere? If I follow the above links I get an "answer no longer available" message. I just built a new system and did all my updating only to find studio 11 wont install.
Thanks

You mean you have installed a Beta SP3, the final won't be made public for a while. Microsoft have enough warnings posted on the Beta site, and others have also warned against using it on a "running" system.

Yes, I patched WinXP to SP3. Why should that make a difference with S11 ? I don't get it.

Come on Sammy, you've been around long enough I believe. The difference is that if it's a BETA, then it's only in a testing mode. No guarantees that it won't de-stabilize your system. Install a Beta on a live system at your own risk.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
No my system is not unstable, whatsoever, with SP3 installed. I don't unstand why there would be a problem, whatsoever. SP3 doesn't really change the OS. It just patches a few issues, NOT much, at all.
My OS reads: Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 V. 3244 build 2600
Its perfectly stable except IE7 crashes sometimes, as usual.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
If it 'patches', it changes. I hate to say the obvious, but a small change to one piece of code can sometimes affect other supposedly unrelated code. If you are able to reset your system to its state before SP3, I'd suggest you try that. Then see if it clears up your problem with S11.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
I looked into Control Panel, Add or Remove Program, and it show Windows XP Service Pack 3, but doesn't show anything for its size (blank). All my other programs work fine, so why won't S11? I haven't installed S11 since my last HDD died and had to be replaced.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
Sammy:
All my other programs work fine, so why won't S11?
I don't know, maybe because S11 does something the other programs don't? Calls a different DLL? To state the obvious, it *is* a different software program from all the others, so it must be different in some way.
We can play the "why" game for quite some time, but without direct access to the code and some good debugging tools, it's a rather pointless debate. Fun? Sure, we've all done it at some time or another, but still not very productive.
Can SP3 be rolled back? If so, does Studio work again?
Or does anyone else want to test it on their machine? But even then, different hardware configuration might make a huge difference. We get different results here all the time, even when we are running the "same" operating system. Due to patches and stuff, I had to put "same" in quotes, because we don't really know how similar our systems really are.
If you don't want to (or can't) roll back to SP2, then maybe doing a reinstall of Studio will fix things up. That painful step has fixed many installations that "shouldn't" have been broken in the first place.
Good luck.
If you do figure it out, or get any more interesting clues, please share.

Googling Windows XP SP3 might lead you to a Link re: safely Removing it from ADD/REM PROGS & "Rolling-Back" to SP2. However there could be probs doing this, since SP3 would have "Rolled-Up" the 90 odd SP2 Windows Updates.

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
First off, the FAQ link is no good, perm. denied Second, if studio 11 can be installed on sp2 then upgraded to sp3 then it stands to reason that its merely an issue with studio 11 needing to see the value for sp at 2. So what do we do? well this worked for me since sp3 is NO LONGER beta. edit registry values as followed (make sure to note what the values are prior to editing): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] "CSDVersion"="Service Pack 2"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows] "CSDVersion"=dword:00000200 once edited, reboot, then install as usual. When done with install change values back to what they were and reboot. This works just fine.

I'll check with the web team and see what happened to this FAQ. Maybe its going through a few changes for some reason.

Do you mean They have no time to realease it OR they will not release it in time? While you are talking to them, perhaps you can get an answer regarding the 720x480/nonsquare pixel resizing question from last September (yes, 6 months ago).

Re: **new **Windows XP Service Pack 3 - Studio 11 Installation Instructions
WinXP SP3 now appears to have been officially released and is "coming to get you!!" - Windows automatic updates is busily trying to ram it down my throat right now (so far I have declined to install it). IMO that patch for the Studio 11 installer not liking anything higher than SP2 now needs to be released too - before too many PCs become "infected" with SP3 .
Before I let SP3 install, is there anything else that I need to be aware of apart from the problem with S11's installer...?
Regards, Richard
